Nice shots....everyone should get to go to a drag race at least one time just to experience it and feel the shock wave that goes through your body. I went about 7 years ago and could not believe it.... Not for someone with heart problems. Far cry from the dragsters I saw as a kid in the sixties at Green Valley Raceway..... What horsepower is top fuel up to now...5000hp, 6000 ?

Your right Jay, everybody should go to at least one race. Been many moons since my tailgating days at Green Valley. LOL. Good to know other folks still remember what it was like ;) The Top Fuel cars are pumping between 7-7300hp now and will blow your socks off. I cant wait until John Force's daughter Ashley moves into Top Fuel Funny Cars next year. My hubby had never been until we met ~ now he's hooked. Which is great news for me ...

7k Wow...I dont how they are able to get the tires to hook up with the concrete for traction with that much horsepower... yeah, GV, those were the days. My dad worked worked pit crew and drove the tow car traveled the country with Bobby Langley back then. They both worked at General Dynamics in Fort Worth. They did match races back then and I think Bobby actually beat Don Garlits one time. Won enough money to put a swimming pool in his backyard. I have a picture somewhere from 1963 with me sitting in one of his dragsters holding the steering wheel. The steering whell was from an automobile (big and round) Ha Ha....

Hi everyone, just curious are you able to get down into the pit area for pictures or do you have to have a pass of some sort? What length lenses and camera settings are you using to get these photos?

at the O'Rielly nationals in Ennis the north side pit tickets are 62.00. They have been that price for years so probably will be the same next year. Yes you can walk around the pits all you want there is always something going on.

Great photos & interview Jay. Thanks for the links. Really liked the reminder in the photo with Vance about how close you could stand on the track. I get lucky from time to time knowing a handful of the safety crew in Ennis. I'll never forget being offered the opportunity to stand at the tree on a round of Top Fuel. There's no explanation for the feeling. I want to be there every time
