Dinosaur Valley State Park - Photo Ops? - 09-29-2006, 12:09 PM

Are there any good sites at Dinosaur Valley State Park for perhaps dusk/dawn landscape shots? I just agreed with my brother to go camping with him there tonight, but won't have much time to have a look around before the sun goes down, so any directions to go to spots would be greatly appreciated. Assuming there are any.

I've been out there before to ride bikes, so I wasn't paying much attention to the landscape, but the actual park is in a definate valley. I'm sure there are some good places to get some shots.

I was wondering about that because in geographically euphemistic North Texas a valley could mean anything. ;)

I was there briefly to look at dino tracks. When you drive in work your way to the left. I think it is the first dino track location. I walked down (towards the left) about halfway to the river. It looked like a nice landscape shot of the river from there in the evening. Also a nice downward slope to slip on and land on river edge rocks. be careful. Sorry, that is all the info I have. I need to go back and look at everything. Set up early, sun goes down pretty quick.

Well, it's certianly not the same type of valley you'd get up in Virginia or Pennsylvania, but it's a valley for Texas, lol.

Hopefully you'll get some green since we've had some rain recently.

Jay, the track #1 location indeed looked like the best landscape shot. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get there during sunset so wasn't able to get something interesting off the relatively clear water. Instead we hiked up the ridgelines looking for a good sunset shot, but I found it very difficult to find any sort of clear vantage point within the thick vegetation.

However, the Park is very good for wildlife. We saw several foxes, almost tame deer, racoons galore, and from the early morning howls it would seem there are plenty of coyote around. Also tons of spiders if that is a subject that interests you. And of course the dinosaur tracks are very interesting.
