Update--does anyone have a Dallas Skyline shot they would consider donating? - 10-13-2006, 12:16 PM

I'm putting together a poster for my local HS baseball team. They want to do a "winning with class" theme in dressed in tuxedos, and have the Dallas skyline as a backdrop. I will do the team shoot, but I don't have a good skyline shot of my own.

Here is a good example of what I am looking for--it doesn't need to be panoramic, though.

I'm only charging them for my expenses, so I wouldn't have much budget to compensate you with, but would give photo credit on the poster if possible. I can also assure you in writing that it wouldn't be used for anything else without your permission.

If you are interested, please PM me, or send a low res copy to my email address.

Thanks in advance!

Just to update all of those that were interested:

I received this email from the Baseball Coach today (the same coach the previously told me he was making the decisions):

Looks like the parents have decided to go with another guy. I'm sorry I have wasted your time. Look forward to working with you on another project.
Thanks.

For all of you that supplied photos: Thank you very much!! I will not be using any of those photos for any other purpose unless I contact you and receive your approval first.

Another good example of life working with booster clubs.

"Other guy" was probably a parent with a cell phone shooting through the windshield on the way in to work.

Nice Shot Bryan - 10-23-2006, 10:50 PM

I actually went out tonight to take some photos of the skyline. Where were you when you took that shot? It looks like maybe somewhere off of I30 ?

Thanks for the info. Yes, I think they are working on two new buildings there. I tried taking my pics tonight from the top of the Renissance hotel but, they did not come out that well. The hotel has a viewing area on the roof but, the rooftop edges are so tall you can't really get good pics. I ended up having to use my tripod like a monopod and my shots were blurry.

Any information you want to share would be awesome. If you don't want to post, a PM is fine with me. I've always thought of Texas as a photo sparse place to live as compared to say Colorado or California but I think that is due to me living here my whole life and not thinking about it creatively.

paul, most of us have taken our shots either at methodist hospital parking garage, or there is a GREAT spot at sylvan Ave, but you have to wait till the Trinity Floods and DO NOT go alone! SCARY neighborhood! take 30 to sylvan, get off at sylvan and head east. Take it till you hot the trinity river bottoms. park and walk out to the banks of the river or wait till it floods and get up on the bridge that goes over the river since it will be shut down.

Yup. I'd advise going right before sundown and just start taking pics as soon as it gets dark. A good spot is on the levees behind Oak Cliff Glass (I think that is the name... big neon sign). I concur about the neighborhood being scary... and you don't want to be walking around alone with lots of expensive equipment. Also, just a tip: If you have a UV filter, take it off for the night shots as it tends to create a little fuzziness in my opinion.

Here is a little map of where I go usually. (also good for daytime shots of course)
