Chances are, I'll be in the Navy in four years, serving alongside some Marines. They definitely have my respect.

I'll be tending a reactor on an aircraft carrier. Probably one of the safest jobs on the ship... and one of the better paid ones, too.

Admin or nuke, they all pay the same (even for O's). Maybe there's a signing bonus or something and a touch of extra pay, but that's not enough to get me to live below the waterline. Those dudes don't see light for months! Of course they glow so they are giving off enough light of their own....

We used to chuckle about the guys who were getting $50 a month for jump pay as we'd toss them out at 1200' on a static line, 'cuz we were getting $250 month extra to stay in the airplane. That and of course the flight suit was always a bonus in the club and the dress blues pretty much guaranteed you wouldn't pay for a drink! Ice cream! Come and get your ice cream!!! Sorry guys, I never could get over those sailor whites.

Man it was great to be in Cali right after Top Gun hit the screens. Talk about not being able to turn around without bumping into some.......

Best of luck Daniel!

Yeah, there's a signing bonus and a big education bonus. And I hear they might be doing away with the whites sometime soon... but that might just be a rumour.

I wouldn't bet on that one. The Navy is big on the tradition thing. Good luck, and be sure to post a picture of yourself in your choker whites and combination cover.

BTW, nice pictures (as usual) Keith!

And sitting in the dungeon of a ship for six years or so will certainly help the studying. It's not like you are going out partying in the ville. Phd, no problem!

Good for you going in with a plan. I used to work with a nuke guy. Seemed stable enough....

I see the interservice rivalry thing is starting to rear it's head.

Come on Pete, give us squids a break. I bet there are some jarheads out in the desert who wished they were sleeping on an air conditioned boat right now.

Three hots, a cot, a shower, a flush toilet, and auto-dog.....it could be worse. Hardehardeharharhar.
