This is it's 4th year and is usually a great studio tour, they have free transportation to take you around the area once you have parked at one of the studios locations.

Get to know this little known area of Dallas that has become the latest working artists area in town.

BTW it is free!
(transportation is open air trailers with seating so if it is chilly out wear a jacket).

BTW at 6 PM at the Jim Bowman Art Glass studio there will be a performance art piece called "decorating the tree returns, with a vengance".

I've known Jim and his wife Mary Lynn for around a dozen years and the guy is an amazing artist.

I saw the first decorating the tree performance piece several years ago (maybe 5 or 6) at another studio that he was involved with and it was unforgettable. At that time there were 4 or 5 hot glass artists in heat suits (similar to what is worn in a blast furnace work area) and they took ladels of molten glass and poured and stretched the glass over a wire christmas tree frame and then one artist was up on a ladder and he poured more molten glass over the structure from above. This lasted for about 10-15 minutes and they ended up with this shimmering tree of clear glass that they put a couple spot lights on. Well since the glass was different thicknesses on the tree and it all cooled at an uncontrolled rate it soon started to pop and crackle and craze and then collapse even though the glass was still over 1,000 degrees hot in parts. It was a crazy performance piece. Not sure if that is what they are going to do today or not.

So that was a ballet of guys in silver full body/hooded suits with ladels of glass that were over 1600 degrees pouring them over this frame work to create a piece of art that lasted less than 20 minutes after completion. WHO SAID THAT ARTISTS ARE NOT CRAZY!

Well they did another tree and I shot away both with limited available light and flash, will be working up pics soon.

Also met the artist that made the Pegasus statue that was painted up by over 100 different artists and placed around the city a few years ago. He had a pure white one in his studio, chatted with him for a bit.

Very nice day for the show and was around at the end of the night when several of the artists said that they had a great day.
