To be honest I have never gone to this, has anyone gone before? I would guess that there are some great photo ops at the event.
Looked at the photo album on the site and the shooter chose a spot by the Hotel, guess that is where the bleachers are set up, but I bet anywhere along the route should be pretty good. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. I have been for the past few years. It is great to photograph. Get there early as the set up pictures are the best. Also there always have been protests in the past at the parade from PETA.

Well looks like the weather will not be cooperating that morning.
Also heard that Plano has a Christmas Parade that same morning at 9 am.

Anybody know if this is a rain/shine/snow go? I would assume if the winds were high that the baloons may not be used since Macy's has that restriction or will they just walk them with short teathers?

News last night had a story about the float makers getting ready for the parade Sat.
Guess I will put on the thermals and try to get to the staging area around 9 am or so.
Anybody else going to be there?

My ex-husband used to work as a cameraman/editor at 8 and we would go every year. From what I remember, the bleachers are set up along the street and most have good views. By the hotel is the best place, but the bleachers in that area are reserved for VIPs and employee's families (at least they used to be). It's great to sit in front of the Adolphus because you can get really neat shots of all the chefs out on the balconies of the hotel. I have a lot of pictures somewhere...when I find them I'll scan some in. It's a great parade. The problems I would see encountering are lighting...the buildings block the sunrise and you're in the shade most of the time. It's also cold for the same reason. You have to kind of "dodge" the cameramen and grips as they weave through the parade participants getting their TV shots as well.
Of course, this info is probably useless at this late date...I just got back in town from San Antonio this morning (which was absolutely beautiful and the weather was awesome...I'll put up a few pictures later). :)

I'll have an album up later with Lot of Pics on my Pbase account.
Ended up the access door on my camera came open and I lost a 512Mb flash card with some of the last pics of the parade-DID SAVE SANTA CLAUS SHOTS though on another card. Talked to a couple ladies outside City Hall and left them a card incase it was turned in since I did my final shooting around City Hall- Glad I shot the Star Wars Storm Troopers before the parade since there parade shots were on the lost card along with the Midevil Times Horsemen and a Clifford Balloon-all shot in the staging area before the parade so did get them at least. I may not have Miss Texas will know for sure when I get all the cards downloaded.
Nice Parade-long one too- filled up almost 6 gigs of cards. 1 1/2 in the prep area and the rest of the parade moving. I gave up trying to shoot by the Adolphus and Neimans just too much shade so went down to the Scottish Right Temple and then down by City Hall once the parade started.

Anybody know who the models were on the Neimans float? If I had gotten there earlier and had more card space I could have taken more shots of them- I have a couple that turned out really good I believe.

OK who were the girl high kicker dance troup with the big candy canes? The girls were wearing white outfits with red hats- were they the Kilgore Rangerettes?
I posted a few shots of the Hardin Simmons Cowboys Band- during prep time they were going up and down the line playing for a bunch of the High School Bands-high school kids were loving it!
I think I had more fun shooting the hour or so that I had while they were prepairing the parade line ups than the actual parade. People on the floats were all smiles (except the fashion models on the NM float but I bet if I had more time I could have gotten them to smile a bit).
I knew that I would be pushing it with the amount of memory that I had so I didn't take many kid shots-afraid that I would run out of space before the parade ended. So next year I know to get there even earlier and take more flash cards.
Weather was a bit cool but not really that bad. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
