Places to shoot a car - 11-22-2006, 12:54 AM

I need to shoot a car with it's owner (a portrait). If she had a great big house with a circular drive, that would be the perfect background, but, alas, she does not. Any ideas where to take her. We both live in the N.E. part of Fort Worth/ tarrant county.

Do you know any realtors in the Keller/Southlake/Colleyville area that you could call and get permission to shoot in front one of the new castles that they are building all over the place out here?

The only negative thing I can think of is that they usually don't like to let cars park on the new (un-sold) driveways, in case the car happens to leak and oil spot the fancy driveway surface. Maybe promise a piece of cardboard under the engine just in case the issue is brought up?

Just a thought.

That would be a great idea.

The picture doesn't need a building in the background. I'm just collecting options. Any others?

What kind of car? Sports car, luxury car, classic??? That would help in defining your search.

Texas Motor Speedway would be a great place, if that is the type of backdrop you are looking for.

There is a place close to TMS that I took a pic of my car when I first got it. It's on 35, close to the Flower Mound exit. IT's a rest area without the bathrooms and other buildings. And on a hill. Great for a sunset shot. If I find the pic I'll post it.

Depends... if you're trying to stop it permanently I would go with a large caliber handgun with armor piercing rounds right to the engine. If you are trying to keep it intact I would shoot the tires but make sure it's not going real fast or the driver might lose control. Be aware that causing damage to the owner could result in some kind of civil suit... society today is just soooo namby pamby

You could do the Ballpark or downtown. Any park with a clean background would work also.
Or you can do a panning shot with the window down so you can see the person driving.
Here are a few like that(without a person though).

Downtown.

Ballpark

Park.

Panning.

Shooting a car is against the law. Taking a photo however is a fun thing.
How about a country club entrance ? I bet if you asked you could shoot at the entrance during non busy hours. Fancy hotel ?? Texas Star Golf course ?

I have a secret place I am thinking about.. Hawks Creek Golf course. the clubhouse looks very european. so I guess the secret is out ???

These ideas are great. I need to research where some of these places are.

Where was the downtown picture taken? If my client likes the night look, I'd like to know where we can actually do it.

Another thought I had was with the city skyline in the background, maybe at night. But this would mean I need to find a place with a clear sightline to the city, and, if at night, need to know how to light the car.

It's a little creepy seeing the best place to shoot a car thread right next to the Kennedy Memorial Service at Dealey Plaza thread.

One I forgot, is the Colleyville Town Square. It looks very French - European. They are trying to copy Southlake Town Square, but with French looking buildings. So far they have not succeeded in getting the crowds of people that Southlake does, which is a plus for your shoot.

Jerry,

Have you ever photographed there? It would be a great place, but I wondered if security would chase a photographer away, since I'm assuming it is a privately owned place. Is there even a place to position a car?
