Shooting the Gaylord - 11-24-2006, 09:05 PM

I have an idea we may be going to the Gaylord sometime tomorrow. Early Birthday for my wife and myself from my son and daughter-in-law. Anyone got any tips for me on what to be on the lookout for? I expect we'll see the ice exhibit too. Settings, flash or no flash? All thoughts/ ideas are appreciated.

I was there a few weeks ago. I recomend a flash for some and area and no flash in others. Also a mono or tri pod fot the no flash. Depends on if you go durring the day or night. There is all kinds of different lighting is all of the nooks and crannies of that place.

Howdy Roy,

Your really going to enjoy it, I would have a pair of gloves and a hat stashed away, it gets pretty cold in there, especially if you spend a little more time than just a walk through.

When we did it last year, several folkls had tripods, and monopods. A flash for some of the carvings seem to help illuminate them.

Also, the Gaylord itself will have a lot of Christmas Decorations with their signature Trains, which will really benifit from fill flash.

Enjoy yourself, it's a beautiful place!!!

Thanks a lot Erin and Craig! Always good to try something different. I know a lot of people from here have been there and got some great shots. We're looking forward to it.

Howdy Roy,

Your more than welcome.

Here's a link to some of the images from last years outing, I am sure the sculptures will be different but if nothing else you can get an idea of what things might look like,

Hey Roy

I have been hankering to get over to the Gaylord. Let us know how you fare. I am particularly curious as to what restrictions they may have on pro photographers.

And remember to use OFF CAMERA FLASH if possible.

Thanks for the link Craig. Going to be lots to see there! Looks like we're heading out late this afternoon and will have dinner there. No off camera flash for me yet Tom but I'm working on it. If you see a bargain, let me know. Lenses.........looks like I don't need to carry the 70-200 around. Maybe the 28-75 will be enough and I don't have a fish eye. Sheesh, I need to make out a Christmas wish list.............hehe.
