Ft Worth Stock Show Parade-1/13/2007

Yeah I know it is over a month away but this is the 111th year of the FTWFSS and the parade is a big one

Man I still think of it as the Ft Worth Fat Stock Show and Rodeo. Does anyone know if they have upgraded the lights in the Rodeo Arena? If they have not, then it is very poor lighting to try to grab action shots in.

No, they haven't upgraded the lighting and I agree the lights are pretty rough....

So I would guess that unless they bring in a TV crew with all their lights to shoot some of the comptetions then the lighting would be poor at best to try to shoot inside of Will Rogers Coloseum. For people not in the know the place was built in the 1930's with lighting levels out of the 60's, I believe that they have sodium vapor lamps in the high reaches of the roof but it has been a while since I have been in there.

Was going to the parade but the forcast looks bad, can deal with cold but not the rain.

Yeah 2 parades in DFW tommorow- MLK in Dallas and Stock Show in Ft Worth for the people not heading down to San Antonio for the Expo at the PPA Convention.

Fort Worth Parade is going to be grim. I was supposed to shoot for a client and after talking to them it looks very iffy. They aren't going to risk $50K+ horses on slick roads. With rain and temps to be near freezing it doesn't look like a good kick-off to the stock show.

As for the lighting, Paul is correct. Sodium vapor. Looking at some stuff from last year I was shooting iso 800 1/250 @ f/1.8 during the cutting events to get a correct exposure FWIW...

Come on Pete, you'll be out there despite the weather.....
I may join you. I think the weather will make for some very interesting possibilities. I bought a storm jacket a couple of years ago (after an assignment in Florida) , and it has never been used.
Or, I could break out the Nikonos, I hear rangefinders are coming back in style anyway......
