Sat at 9 am at City Hall is the Mayors Race, free to kids in the DISD, $5 to others, I believe it is a 5k race or 1 mile walk to promote fitness for kids in the city and adults too.

BTW there will be a Gospel Competition at the Kwanza Fest on Sunday, I have never attended this so not sure if you will have people all dressed up for this or not but I would assume so.
I will be shooting the marathon till at least noon and I am not sure how late the Gospel singing will be going on till. (If I get over there Sat I will find out the hours of that part of the days events and add that info here). I also will ask around if there will be any photo restrictions and if flash will be allowed since nothing is listed on the website. This should be kicked up a notch with some people here after the Hurricane because N.O. was known for their Gospel competitions at the jazz fest (yes on Fridays they would have some regional winners on the stage from competitions held before the festival).

Info on Tommorows Kwanza Fest
It is not in the Automobile building but the one across the reflecting pool from it, best to park over by the Train Museum on the NW end of the park.

The Gospel Competition starts at 11 am and runs till 7 PM with the Grand Prize being $3,000! So should be some good groups. Now the lighting in their sucks- they had one spot shooting about 100 ft across the floor today spotlighting the RAP singers-place was packed!!!! Now there is a big arched window above and behind the stage that lets some light in but not much. Ceiling there is about 35 ft or so. Stage is up about 4 ft above the crowd. No chairs that I could see so people were standing around don't know about tommorrow.

The exhibit hall right on the other side of the curtain has about 60 vendors including medical, social and educational along with banks, real estate, schools and retailers at the other end of the hall there is a Kid's Kwanza Play area- I did not go past the entrance do to lack of time today.

This is Free to go into and all the activities inside are free also, I asked a volunteer at the event booth about photos at the Gospel show and she did not know of any restrictions but there is a possibility that some signed act may have a restriction.

Place was crowded at 2:30 till 4 when I was there and most people were very friendly.

I will be shooting the marathon in the morning-look at the PJ section for more info.

Well I missed the Gospel singers, they ended at 2:00 and I got there after 2:15 but while I was there a little guy got up on stage and wowed the audience, RUBIN STUDDARD SANG!!! NOW I know for sure why he won American Idol!

FLASH WAS ALLOWED!! I Think I got some keepers out of his 20+ minute set.

The random white flecks came off of a towel he was using, man he was sweating away on stage after 15 minutes.
