Good Background in Irving? - 12-07-2006, 12:21 PM

I have a sitting with a friend of mine in Irving this weekend. She is seeing her Mom for the first time in 12 years and they want me to take some pictures. I am not familiar with Irving at all and she has suggested somewhere there with a fountain. I'm worried with the time of the year, that she'll be disappointed with that background. Can anyone make a suggestion on a good place to go in that area?

You might check the square around the Mustangs of Las Collinas, which has some water features.

You might also check out Jaycee Park, just off 183 east of Story road (south side of 183). It has some pretty nice flowers most of the year, but not sure what it's like at the moment.

The Mustangs of Las Colinas, as has been mentioned, is a good place. Also, about 1/2 block from there there is a canal area (down a flight of steps) that presents some nice background possibilities. I have seen any number of photographers taking portraits and wedding shots there.

Thanks for the advice! I believe she is only a short distance so we will probably go check it out!

I second the Mustangs.. really a great background, esp if you're shooting B&W.

It's been a while since I was over there, but they have a big flower clock sort of across the freeway from the the mustang place. Of course, it may be sort of dead looking at the moment, but take a look as you're out.

The University of Dallas is over in that general vicinity, and they might have some neat buildings for backdrops. I always notice the tower as I go by on 183. I don't know if they have any rules on trespassing or photography on the grounds.

There where the mustangs are, explore the area a bit before you start shooting. Seems like there are some scenic views out the back side of the square there, but I don't recall details at the moment.

Somebody mentioned a while back about being questioned or stopped when shooting there with a tripod. I've not had that problem, but it could come up.

Well we've moved it to next weekend so I'm going to drive out there this weekend and see what I can find. I have been to the canals in a long time so I'll probably get lost!!

There is a large fountain next to the Central Library. It might give you some other options.
