Engagement Type Picture Location - 12-07-2006, 11:28 PM

Ok so this is the deal I have a friend who wants to get some pictures made here before she goes to Mexico to get married and I was graciously volunteered to take the pictures. We were going to go out to the Gaylord and take some this weekend but upon calling them they wanted $500 for use of the facility too much for here to pay. We are now in need of a place to shoot some pictures and I have not done any of this type of photography so I am at a loss for a place to shoot the pictures. If anybody has any ideas on a place to go that may be protected from the weather any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Dallas Baptist University has a large park-like area with trails, water, bridge, gazebo, etc. etc. I saw it as I was driving by and "portrait location!" was the first thing that went through my mind.

Ive been meaning to stop by and ask about using it for pics but I havent got around to it. If anyone does ask let us all know what they said.

Several buildings on the SMU or TCU campus come to mind and then some people say that there are some great shots at Los Colinas, just that most of these are outdoors.

Yeah the Gaylord charges $$$ same as the Japanese Gardens at Ft Worth.

I stopped in at Dallas Baptist University once just to take some shots of one of the buildings and some flowers. The security guard came around, and was real nice, they had no objections to my shooting or being there. It may not fit your needs, but isn't necessarily off-limits, either.

An obvious choice is the Dallas Arboretum. In addition to whatever flowers are lingering on, you have stone walls, stairs, a gazebo, other nice areas to shoot in.

Is there a local church available for shooting like this?

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by,
and then it petered out and I had to retrace my steps and wasted half a day.

I was looking at the private pond and stuff behind the last row of apartments there. I drove by there yesterday while at work and the gazebos, arch bridge, etc. still there but when I saw it it was very green, not brown like it is in the wintertime.

So maybe not the best background this time of year, unless you put them out on the island gazebo in the middle of the pond. Also, since they are one the east end of the compound the setting sun will be obstructed by all the apartments and the main hill, so golden hour shots might be a challenge.

Ibix,

Look at the Canals in Las Colinas, Turtle Creek, or the Arboretum. Those seem to be the most popular spots these days for engagement photos.
