Talking Anybody Want to Shoot First Monday Trade Days in Canton on 12/30 - 12-19-2006, 08:28 AM

Since 1/1/07 is a Monday the Trade Days should start that previous Thursday-heck I'm thinking that Friday may be a great photo op day if the weather co-operates. So anyone interested in going out on Saturday?
http://www.firstmondaycanton.com/

Hey it is free to get in, parking is free or cheap, there are photo ops out the wazoo and if you're into Flea Markets this is GROUND ZERO!

I CAN NOT GO ON SUNDAY BECAUSE OF THE COTTON BOWL PARADE THAT DAY!

I live in Canton and enjoy going there. If you want to park for free, you can do so at my church....First Baptist. We are off of Hwy 64 and Athens St in Canton. There is a flower shop "Billie Rose" on the corner of 64 and Athens St and just turn right. The parking lot is about a block and 1/2 down on the right, just before you have to turn either left or right. My singles class normally does parking there for "donations" only but I don't think we are doing it this weekend. The flea market is about 1/4 mile from there and people park here all the time.

What time are people going to meet? There is a vendor over by the Arbors I eat at each month who has the best chinese food around so that will be a must stop for me.

I might be persuaded to join you, weather and my daughter's schedule permitting. Keep us posted on the when and where. Never been there and always wanted to go.

If you guys haven't been to Wild Willie's Mountain, you should check it out. My brother used to have a shop there when it was first constructed...all shops are done up in kind of an old west theme. It's on the northeast corner of hwy 19 & 64.

Just curious...

Has anyone ever found any useful photographic equipment at Canton?

I have not been to Canton for over 5 years but I am sure that Film Equipment is there for the buying and especially LF. I have been going to the Tower show at Fair Park which is like every other month now and they have had dealers who specialize in photographs and old LF equipmen setting up there on a regular basis and I think several of them say they did Canton also.

Also don't forget that dealers come in from as far away as St Lious and Atlanta for Canton!

Yep, there is a vendor in the Canton Market Place, an indoor place only open during First Monday, on Hwy 19, just south of I 20, that sells used film equipment. He is always there.....Other than old Kodak cameras, the Brownie's, I have not seen too many other camera things....But ya never know each month what will be there.

You're the one who is familiar with locations so pick a place for the 8 am (or earlier group) then a second for those in at 9 and I would say a 3rd for those in at 10.

I think the Canton Marketplace on Hwy 19 would be great. They have a big sign out front and that's the building where the man with all the camera equipment is at so would be a good place to start. Everything is within walking distance and there is a lot of walking, but they also have Trolleys that I have used before when the day is over. Sometimes they are free but the last two months, they charged a few dollars but that was during the busy months.

Coming from the DFW area, go east on I20 and when you get into Canton, take the Hwy 19 Exit, then turn right on to Hwy 19. Go about 1/2 mile and the Canton Marketplace is on the right. Parking should be $3.00 and some months the parking is free. Their phone # is 903-567-7772 and address is 1455 N Trades Day Blvd which is also Hwy 19.

Let's meet inside up front by the office, that should be a good spot for all and maybe wait about 10 minutes for those that may be hung up in traffic. I hope to get there for the 9 am group but my dog is having surg Friday, two tumors removed, and it will depend on how she is doing Sat morning if I am able to go.

Guess we will know who we are by all the cameras with us.....

Well I guess I will try to get there early and start nosing around first and then be at the meet point at 9.

BTW even if the weather is bad Canton has grown so many buildings that you could spend all day inside at the flea market vendors so don't let the weather keep you away.

So who is planning to go?
