Reunion Tower Reflected - 01-22-2007, 11:06 AM

Well, there was this giant bright ball thingy in the sky that I hadn't seen in awhile, so headed downtown to Reunion Tower to shoot some pics.

Unfortunately, the observation deck at the tower isn't really geared to photographers at all, the chain link is too small to fit a lens through, and the plexiglass "windows" which I suppose are intended for photographs are very dirty and clouded.

SO.. my best shot was taken on the elevator ride on the way down... ;-) The red lights are the reflected lights from the elevator... I probably need to go in and clone those out...

Yeah plexiglass doesn't have an unlimited life and those pieces up there may not have been replaced for many years. Maybe if you sent the Hyatt a nice letter about the condition of the Plexi they might just replace it, it may never have occured to them that it has gotten in bad shape. *they do charge to go up there so they should at least offer you the opportunity to get a clean shot. I have not been up there for years and am suprised they don't have the open slots, like old castle walls had for guns, for photographers to shoot through?

You're right, they do charge. $2 to ride the elevator up, or at a minimum you can have an appetizer (we went for the not-so-great $15 hotwings - oh and we waited a bout an hour to get those) at the Dome and you get to ride the elevator for free.

The chain link up there is has a gap of maybe two inches.. fine for P&S cameras, but that's about it.

Last time I was up there, I was able to shoot through the chainlink okay. You can't necessarily stick a lens through, but can still shoot through it. And I think they had some bigger holes in the chainlink that were handy for shooting as well.

I looked for some bigger ones, mighta mised them but if there are some up there, they're not obvious..

Was thinking about this later on this afternoon... I wonder if they don't have bigger holes because you could then fit a beer can or bottle through the fencing? I'm sure every observation deck has some problems with people tossing stuff off...

Thats a very likely scenario, stuff falling from that height would be painful. I gat some good shot using a P/S like you said, but I didn't look for any bigger spaces
