Angry *** Stolen *** - 01-31-2007, 01:50 PM

Yes, I know better... but I had just finished a shoot a few hours earlier and I had nowhere else to store my gear at the time.

My truck was broken into Saturday night. They stole EVERYTHING I owned... minus the charger that was at home. All Nikon lenses, bodies, bag, tripods, memory cards, filters, yadda yadda. To the tune of around $11K.

It's gonna cost me around $2K in insurance deductible to have it all replaced. What a pain in the arse! Damn Crackheads!

Very sorry to hear about this. My gear was stolen a few days before the new year. Luckily not that much, just my canon body and a kit lense. I JUST got a replacement this past weekend. Thieves really piss me off!

Good reason to keep an inventory list with Serial #'s, along with clear pics of each piece and serial number (heck we are photographers) and keep that list say one copy of the printed list in your glovebox and at least one more copy at home.

Then when robbed turn the list into the cops, also contact a couple of the larger pawn shop chains (they can put an alert into their system that the stuff is stolen since you would have serial number).

Keep an eye on ebay and craigs list.

99% of the time now with higher end stuff the person will take it to a local "fence" who will then send it out of the area to a buddy to liquidate so check all of craigs lists not just your town.

Sorry to hear about the loss, I have had gear stolen before and it is a kick in the gut.

What was stolen? And what is the closet pawn shop from the break in, might be some good deals! :P

Just kidding, that tottally sucks man. I have to admit, I've left my stuff in the truck many many times.

Heck, as a SCUBA instructor, I've left around 3-4k worth of gear unsecured in the back of my truck. :O

My deductible is only $500 through Hill and Usher. Wouldn't make much less upset, but $2000 sounds high--is that through a homeowner's policy?

Sorry to hear that, Wil. I've gotten to the point that if I have gear in my car/truck, I'll take it inside with me.

Second that! And I certainly hate to hear you lost your stuff. I lost a laptop and printer outta my truck in the Galleria Parking Garage! Sucks.

It is going through my home insurance. My deductible is 1% of the amount my home is insured for... so roughly $200,000. I should probably just pick up some photography insurance on the side.

I have a spreadsheet with all the serial numbers, purchase dates, locations, etc. so hopefully that will make it easier to get reimbursed. They are going to do somethin weird like pay me 85% of the claim amount and then I can turn in receipts to get the remainder. Totally stupid if you ask me.

Anyone using the NikSure (off of Nikonians.org) insurance?

Definately give a list of serial numbers, etc. to the camera shops in the area. Most buy use equipment and are more than happy to keep an eye out and call the cops if something shows up. I did it when I worked at the old Metro Photo II camera store in Irving many moons ago. The camera show in Grapevine this weekend is not a bad idea either.

BTW, does anyone have the details on that show?
