Smile Never been to Dallas before... - 02-04-2007, 03:05 PM

I'm going to tag along on a business trip that my husband has planned in a couple weeks. I'll have most of an afternoon alone and want to take a cab somewhere. The hotel where we need to stay (close to hubby's account) is in Carrollton. I don't need to go to the hottest photo spot in town. I just need to find a safe location that I can photograph some city life and maybe get a good cup of coffee along the way.

Any ideas for this newbie poster from out of town?

Thanks in advance!

Neiman Marcus downtown would be a nice trip. You'll be right down town amongst the buildings, museum, etc. Also a very nice spot for a cup of coffee.
Some very nice hotels in the area with interesting lobbies. Police station, Book depository, etc.

downtown is nice...If you're in Carrollton, Addison is right by there as well.

Downtown Dallas - West End comes to mind as well as Deep Ellum. The school book depository musem is walking distance from West End as well as the conpiracy musem and other places of interest.

Both are safe in the day and mostly at night except Deep Ellum you need to be careful. Deep Ellum is a place to take pictures of a variety of people. Ecletic type area with people from all walks of life.

And don't be afraid to take the DART... $4.50/day pass and that will cover TRE and Fort Worth's "T" bus system too. Maybe a little seedier clientele later at night, but I have never had a problem. It will let you move about the city quickly. And try to go to Reunion Tower, only like $2 to ride up to the observation deck for panoramic views of the Metroplex.

It might be because it's 3:45 am and I should be asleep... but the title of this thread reminds me of a Three Dog Night song:

Well I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
The don't abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can't refuse it

Carry on...

If you don't want to go too far, as mentioned previously, Addison is nice. Addison Circle has some neat buildings and structures, and then there's Addison Airport as well where you can see all kinds of private planes. There's a nice row of large buildings along the Dallas North Tollway close to the Belt Line intersection as well.

I don't know how far your hotel would be from a Dart rail line- but they are pretty nice, and really convenient for downtown- but you could be a ways off at the hotel.

You'll get some nice photo ops all around the city. You'll have to let us know how you enjoyed your visit.

Just looked at the Dart map. Carrolton is about as close to downtown as it is to a Dart line. I'd rent a car, myself.
