Thumbs down Locations for bike photos in Dallas area help - 02-06-2007, 04:43 PM

I am in need of ideas of different locations for different styles of backdrops. I am looking for a wide variety. Maybe something like and industrial setting, a train yard setting, a water fountain, maybe like and old barn/ farm setting. Anybody have any ideas about where I might be able to find some of these things? I am kinda new here. I have lived here about 2yrs. I am going to be shooting 18 motorcycles with models and wanted a variety of backdrops/settings.
Thanks in advance.

Oh...you mean motorcycles.

Make a tour around Fair Park for one thing. I don't recall fountains that you could get a motorcycle next to, though. Isn't there some sort of big fountain in front of Dallas City Hall?

Possibly check at Samuel Farms in Mesquite, Old City Park in Dallas, and the historical place in Farmer's Branch. I know Old City Park has some limitations on pro photography, but don't know if it's a ban or just charging for it.

Is Tarantula still in operation in Fort Worth? Possible rail location. Also, the depot at Grapevine.

Not sure how close you can get, but there are some nice fountains next to Firewater Bar and Grill. With all the surrounding area being parking, you shouldn't have too much problem, and they are lit up nicely at night. Here's a pic from a TPF Sep06 GTG.

Just occurred to me- "motorcycle and model"- that brings to my mind the typical shot of a scantily clad young lady and the parked motorcycle- just having some models actually riding the things around would be a big difference. Photograph from the back of a pickup at slow shutter speed maybe? Just a thought.

Having the model riding around might be a great photo op. But, I just cant see the guys turning their bikes over to some girls that cant ride. hehehehe But I do think it would be a cool idea. Maybe have to try to find some women riders next time I am up in Sturgis, S.D.

I am not too familiar with the Lavon area, but I bet if drove around and found an old barn or farmhouse you like, and go ask the landowner they would let you use the site. Of course I would probably try to get a nice shot of the scene without the scantily clad ladies and cycles and give it to the owner as a thank you. If they wanted a cycle and girl photo I would probably give on of those also.

The Samual Farm site has some really nice areas but I would call before I drove out there and ask if they would let you shoot there, this is owned by Dallas County, but is now being run by a lawyer third party and he has changed some of the rules. I know the Mustangs of Las Colinas is really nice but I think they charge.

Good Luck with your search and if you are in the market for an assistant or second shooter let me know.

I'm in the same pickle, so to speak. I am going to be doing a bridal shoot for a red head and a sport bike. She won't do the scanti clad thing. I am open to suggestions.

I was thinking about a winding sidewalk out at the Arboretum...

I am also open to assist on someone else's project...

Thanksgiving Square very EARLY on Sunday morning. I was there EARLY one Sunday morning and it was deserted. If it's a clear morning it's a very impressive sight.
