DFW Photojournalism Seminar - SIGN UP HERE - 05-24-2005, 07:12 PM

Just wanting to get a rough idea of how many people would be interested in a seminar/class on photojournalism.

It would be taught by our own Leslie Spurlock and held at VIP Photography Studios in Flower Mound. Probably a few hours of basics in the studio and then out to the field.

Time would be sometime this summer, and if there is demand maybe a couple of different times. We'll try to keep the cost down but high enough to make it worth it for Leslie.

Just a quick reply as to level of interest would be great and also weekend or weeknight.

Thanks!

I'd love it... I'm tied up for a week and a half in June (centered around the 11th).. and for a week and a half after July 4... so I'd have to beg out if the schedule takes us there.

Well maybe we'll have an MBA level class with both of you there! :-) That's what's great about this forum. Different people with different experiences all contributing. What other business has that?

Hey Joe,
I recognize that house under architecture, the one on the lake in Tyler. That was the one I tried to win. I couldn't believe I didn't win. I entered like everyday! It was one of the few contests I did enter.

Wow, that's very kind of you to say but I doubt it's true. Either way, I'd enjoy hooking up with some other local photogs and PJ is of great interest to me.

It's also going to be at David's studio which I've been wanting to check out for some time now.

Please can I come, please, please, please!

What a great house that was and what a beautiful lake. Unfortunately that's the only house in the tract that will be on the lake so if you didn't win it, you're out of luck. Still, it was every bit as grand as they made it out to be on HGTV.

My photo didn't do it justice.

Oh, I wanted it so bad! I read that it was the only one with lake access. My son was already planning on moving in. Your pic of it is awesome. Were your pics used on their site? My mom was going to live in the boathouse, which was basically like a separate apartment. Well, I just hope those people that won really enjoy it!

OK, you can come! But I think you should co-teach it. You really do some amazing work! I love your image, I'm not sure exactly where it is, the Arctic, Antarctica, Everest, I don't know, but the guys on the ice with the tent. Great shot!!

Uh, Leslie....

I just went to your web sites and there's no way you and I are in the same league. Your photographs are magnificent! The colors, composition, the emotion they emanate. Wow, now I can't wait to listen to you talk!

Joe, you are too kind!! Not nearly enough emotion in my shots. But, I know that and do know how to get it, it's just a matter of getting myself at the right place at the right time. I actually had tons of emotional shot from the uprising, women looking up at me with tears rolling down their face, but 30-40 rolls of exposed film from that time were stolen from me in Port-au-Prince. I also didn't get to the flood until 5 days after it happened because that's when I got the assignment. I tried to warn them a week before it hit that it was heading to Haiti and it would be total devastation. Noone listened. Anyway, thanks for your kind words, but your work really is amazing, and I don't say that very often.

Leslie,

I love your photos. My church has a sister church in Chambelain (sp?) Haiti and they take a 2 week mission trip every year. I hope to travel with them next year to photogrpah the whole trip. They set up a medical clinic while they are there and help out with some of the missionaries there. I know they fly into Port Au Prince and thena 6 hour Jeep drive to the "outback".

If I get to go, I will be picking your brain for some tips, etc. I would like to do the project with Photo Mission, we'll see.
