Hey.. I know we've broached this topic before, but its always been of the flavor of "well, sometime somewhere, yea.. great idea".
I'm going to break the ice by trying to solve half of the problem.
What does everyone think about doing some sort of "shoot around" on Saturday, June 4? I'm thinking picking a location, meeting either early morning or late in the evening and doing a lunch or dinner together for a "get to know ya" part as well.....
Anyone like this idea? Anyone got a suggestion on location?

Hey Brad, I had this all edited up and ready to post, and then spotted your post. Hope you don't mind if I attach it here to this thread. I posted this over on STF too, where an number of TPF folks live too. I don't want to take over your idea, but just offer it as a suggestion. I was going to start a thread here, but this seems like a good place to put it.
maybe an informal shoot-out for DFW area shooters?
just want to alert ya'll to the fact that there will be a horse event held in Trinity Park in Ft Worth on the weekend of June 4th and 5th. I asked my horsey friend who participates in these type events, and she will be sending me a info link to this one.
It should be easily possible to get shots such as this:
This one was taken a couple of years ago at a fun day on a farm, not at Trinity Park.
This was shot from what is called "Stadium" where a series of jumps are set up in an area about 4 times the size of a basketball court. Pretty close. They lope around a set pattern on the jumps, and it is easy to spot a good one and set up on it. I found a spot where I had a look at three jumps without moving.
They will have Stadium and the more exciting "Cross Country" where the jumps are much larger and the course is taken at a run.
I drive past the park every day on my drive home, and they have set up the logs and jumps all along the river. It will be easy to go down there this week-end and scout out jumps you might want to position yourself at.
I will post the link as soon as I receive it.
If any one is interested, just attend, or we could meet up and give it a try.
Let me know what you think.

Personally, I LOVE the idea. I mean, this is a fantastic idea to begin with, but i look for ANY reason to bust out the camera. I would be game for sure.
The only thing i might be a little worried about is that its 'vacation' season.
Myself, I'll JUST be getting back into town.
Lets DO it!
Here's one more idea - how bout everyone that replies - provides a SUGGESTION on where to go or what to do and then we take a POLL or collective vote? You might already have something in mind i dont know.
One thing Ive been wanting to do for YEARS is shoot downtown Dallas at night. Thats my suggestion.

Jerry: Sounds like a fabulous idea.. hijack away (well, not really hijacking since it was a suggestion for what to do)... I'm all for it.
Blonboy (sorry, I forgot your name, all I have is the handle to go on): Dallas at night sounds great, but I'm afraid its only something I would want to do with a group. :) The West End area is a lot of fun in the summer.. as well as the holiday season.

It works for my schedule. The downtown at night sounds good or Deep Ellum at night would be very interesting.

Oh, I just read the part about shooting downtown. I will do that if it involves people. If we are just shooting the city scape, maybe I'll just come out and meet you guys and have a drink or dinner or whatever with you all. Don't not do the nightscape because of me, though, if everyone else wants to shoot that. I would be just happy meeting everyone.

Certainly quite a variety of people to be shot (no pun intended). :-)

Yeah, Deep Ellum would be cool. I've never shot down there, but I've seen some cool stuff from others that have. I'd actually like to go more in-depth at some point with the Guardian Angels down in lower Greenville. Anyway, that has nothing to do with this. I just thought of that when you mentioned Deep Ellum.

I have a fashion shoot (daytime) in Deep Ellum on June 1st. I'll try to remember to post some of the photos after the shoot. Its a great backdrop. I've got a whole series of graffiti from there, its all pretty cool.

I would love to see the pics, David. It seems like it would be a great backdrop for fashion photography. That's the type of fashion stuff I would like to shoot, and used to shoot many years ago.

Horse or Deep Ellum work for me, but if we do the horses, I don't want to just shoot the show. Can we go behind the scenes? That's where the photographs are.
