You get a lot of nice shots. I take it there is a place to set up and take pictures outside the base without getting the 3rd degree from those with badges and guns and the kind of Canon I wouldn't want to be looking down the barrel of. I'm hoping to get some L glass sometime soon and looks like a good place to play with them.

Don't think that this location is absolutely free from hassle. I go there a lot, and have been hassled by what I believe were new AP's on the base. They are on the other side of the fence, and have even displayed their AR-16s (not pointed, but they were carrying them for indimidtion ). I always explain that we've been shooting there for years without any problems, and that the lot seems to be the property of the City of White Settlement.
A couple of times, they seem to have called the White Settlement police. That's a good time to have a monitor, and a good time to go to lunch. When I have been hassled by the White Settlement PD, they have simply said that the base complained and that I would have to leave the area.
I would guess I have been there a couple of hundred times, and have been hassled only 4 times total... Maybe I look dangerous in my Mitsubishi Outlander and Sigma 70-200 ??

I have not been told to vacate the area in probably 2 years. It comes and goes. . . we leave only to show back up a day or two later. . . .and then they drive by and do nothing. If they really wanted to get serious about people being there they could easily block the area off and post no photography signs.

Another very nice picture Keith. So, when the tower gives clearance to Canadian planes, do they say "Take off, eh."

Hopefully I haven't discouraged anyone from using this spot. I think the only problems arise when some overzelous newbie base policeman sees people taking photos of HIS base. Many bases do prohibit photography, but NAS has never been a problem. As Keith points out, I think once they find out the base command doesn't mind, they just drive on by and leave everyone alone.

The day the Lightning II took off there were a thousand people lined up and down the road, and that spot was jam packed with spectators. Didn't see any security there.. except WS police to keep folks from blocking the thoroughfare.
