AV-8's are always fun to watch. I assume that was a vertical landing?

Hold on; those are not dragboats. But they are very fine pictures of planes. Congratulations.

#4 and 5 are great shots. Especially the angle of #5. Just curious, what lens were you using?

Judging by the position of the exhaust there, it's got to have been a vertical or near vertical landing for the Harrier.

Well yeah, but it might've been a vertical takeoff (rare but I'm pretty sure the AV-8 is still capable of one).

Hah, yeah, you got me. I was thinking it had to be going down for some reason... could just as easily be going up.

Thanks for the comments all, I used my 300 f/4 IS on the XT. The Harrier landings were near vertical but not completely.

The Harriers CAN launch vertical but because of the forces and fuel requirements they dont usually do that. The other issue is to make sure that you have hearing protection if you think they will be landing near you. LOOTTTSSS of noise!!!

I remember in the old days when you could go out there and watch B52's landing and taking off. Now THAT was cool. They were old planes then, plus flew slower than it looked like they ought to be able to, smoked, and appeared to land at a slight angle, not straight on.

---------------------------
I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by,
and then it petered out and I had to retrace my steps and wasted half a day.
