Exclamation Civil War Re-Enactment 3/10 & 11, Grandview - 03-08-2007, 06:37 PM

Hi All,
Posting this here since it is close to the DFW Metroplex.

This weekend, there will be a Civil War re-enactment at Beaumont Ranch near Grandview. I've been to a few of the Civil War events and have found them to be terrific photo ops. The participants take great pains to be as period correct as possible. Everyone is very friendly and loves to show off their gear. The amount of work that goes into some of the camps is impressive. Whole families get in on the event.
Trust me, there are plenty of images to be made before, during, and after the battles.

Tickets $5
Parking $2

Saturday
Gates open at 9am; BATTLE is at 2pm; gates close 5pm

Sunday
Gates open 9am; BATTLE 1pm; gates close 5pm

If I understood correctly, there is a dinner option for Saturday night ($9.97) and a dance ($12.00). Both should be very interesting with all of the participants in period attire.

Unfortunately, I already had conflicting plans (plus the 2.5 hour drive each way from Austin).
sigh....

I have suddenly gotten tomorrow free since other half has decided to go out of town.
This sounds interesting. Keep an eye out for me, I may decide to drive on down there.

Howdy All - 03-11-2007, 08:40 AM

Howdy All,

The Wife and I went down yesterday, what a beautiful day to be outside. Met lots of friendly people and really enjoyed seeing all the Re-enactor's and all the of their Uniforms, equipment, Guns, and Cannon's!!

It was however pretty hot, and there is not a lot of shade around, so make sure and take your hat (I couldn't find mine until I got back home) and sunscreen. They do have several places to "Buy" ice water and also had food in the large Conference Center.

They had a "Skirmish" in the little town at 11:30 yesterday, and then the Battle took place at 2pm. Lots of very good opportunities for some great portraits, as they really love having their pictures taken, and you might need some long glass for some really close up shots of the battle. I think the schedule is moved up an hour earlier today, so the Battle is at 1pm.

Non participants have to park up by the front gate but they have a free "Hayride" back to the action, which is about 1.4 mile away, so pack lightly it's kind of a long day.

As Hutto pointed out in his post, the cost is really cheap at 5 a person and 2 for parking.

Also, if you get a chance, in one of the town building there is a photoshop, stop in and say hi to Mr. Katz, he's a very accomplished photographer, and he has some amazing images printed(by permission) from the Library of Congress Archives of some wonderful Civil War images, and the proceeds go to help the Civil War Museum.

I'm not going to make it this time.

Achilles tendon is sore, and a lot of walking is not a good idea today.
I'm going north and just scout around some areas I haven't been to in Texas.

Howdy All,

I made a mistake when I typed how far it was from the main gate to the Little Town, it's 1/4 mile and not 1.4 miles!!

Sorry!!
