Ok.. since it looks like I opened my big mouth and essentially volunteered to coordinate... here is the plan. Jerry suggested the equestrian event out at Trinity Park in Fort Worth on June 4. That is the idea that I'm going to run with here...
Jerry and Craig will try to reserve a table at Old South Pancake House. They say it is very close by and a good breakfast spot. (There is a Denny's next door in case we can't get in.) Let's meet there about 8am and take an hour or so for breakfast/meet and greet.
To get to the Old South Pankcake House: Take the University exit off I-30, headed South, towards the Ft Worth Zoo. The Old South is in the second block off I-30 on the east side of the street. Denny's is next door. Can't miss it if you head towards the Zoo. The German Pancakes are the specialty, and are very good. Meet and greet can go on for an hour or so, or even longer, there is plenty of time.
As for the event, on Saturday they will be running Cross Country from 8 am until 5 pm. That should be plenty of time for everyone to get some shooting in, they can stay or leave as they wish.
The event will be held in Trinty Park. When we leave Old South, we just go north on University past I-30 a few blocks. Parking will be at a Football Stadium on University right across the street from Casa. The parking lot is about 1/2 block from the park. (Don't know the name of the stadium, but it's another "can't miss it" we can caravan in our cars. Very Easy.)
The horse event jumps are spread out along the river in Trinity Park, and they go along the river for quite a distance. We can start out from the Stadium parking and take a look at the event and what all is going on. People can decide what they want to shoot after watching the horses go out on the course and come back.
Depending on what people want to shoot, and where, some of us may want to get back in our cars and drive to other parts of the course. Craig and Jerry know their way around there pretty well, and can help with other access points by car. They found that there are a number of good looking jumps on the upper end away from the Stadium parking area, that would be a pretty good hike on foot. In the end, we'll let everyone decide what spots they want to try. The group may or may not stay together. It is so big an area, I'm thinking that some people will be splitting off depending on their interests.
Before we split up, we may also decide to try to re-convene around noon or 1pm or whatever and discuss what we may do for lunch and/or more meet and greet... if you arrive too late for breakfast/early morning stuff, just look for me (I'm the guy with the goatee and the hat just like my avatar over there.. carrying a Canon 10D.. my tall, skinny 15 year old son may also be with me.. think light skin and hair that looks like Ashton Kutcher just rolled out of bed)... I'll probably be out there most of the day.
Feel free to follow up this message if you plan on joining us for breakfast so we know to look for you and/or don't take off without you (within reason, of course)!

Hey Brad,
Nancy Wilkins here. I plan on being there Saturday. I'll be headin' in from Big D. Count me in for Ol' South at 8:00a. I'm a compadre of Jerry and Craig (hope that's not an automatic disqualification!!! Just kiddin', he, he!) Sounds like fun! Looking forward to meeting you.

Howdy Brad,
Just got off the Phone with Ol South, and they have a table reserved for "Kirk" at 8am.
Just in case anyone is coming in and doesn't quite know where it's located, heres a link to a map. http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?Pyt...=us&tdesc=
Really excited to meet everyone, this should really be fun.
Just a reminder, JerryK had a good suggestion when we were walking around , if you plan to stay for any length, a folding chair might be a great idea, and possibly some water, I would imagine it's going to be hot.
YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Take care,
Craig

I just called one of the numbers on the web site.
There are no admission fees or parking fees for spectators.
Good question, one I had forgotten to ask.

If you haven't taken a look yet, there are photos from prior years events as well as of the jumps themselves. It can give us an idea of things to look and look out for. http://www.fortworthequestrian.com/event/
It looks like a good surrounding for some really nice shots.
Does anyone have a suggestion on lens selection?
