Weekly stop at Carswell NAS - 03-24-2007, 12:16 AM

Friday is my day off, so I usually have lunch next to the runway at Carswell NAS. Today the weather was marginal and I hoped to get some wingtip vortices, etc.
This heat trail and small vortex was as good as it got today. But, the lunch was pretty good

Edit: got a thought to put up the original unprocessed (only resized ) shot.

Too bad they are de-activating that group.

They are deactivating VFA-201 Hunters. I think this is an F-18 of the Marine squadron VMFA-112 Cowboys. I don't believe they are slated to be axed. . .at least I hope not. As a sidenote. . . I got an e-mail last week that the last 2 Hunter jets are flying out the 29th . . .this Thursday.

Very cool capture. My husband was actually part of the Hunters squadron when we met. At that time, they had tomcats instead of F-18's.

Used to work across the hwy (Marine Creek pkwy@loop) in early 80s whe it was still G-D making new ones, saw the F16s doing sales demo stuff almost daily. Never got over to the other side of the Loop tho, we were there only 18 months.

Driving home up Jackboro Hwy, often the ANG (?) would pop over the loop and instantly rattle everyone in their F4s.....couldn't hear them until them crested the freeway....not easy to ignore those birds a few 100 ft overhead!
