Photos with Sigma 70-300 lens - Pentax - 03-29-2007, 05:06 PM

Hello fellow TexasPhotoForum-ers, I just got my new Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 macro lens in the mail. I was planning to go out to the Heard Museum in McKinney but the sky is about to open up and start a deluge. I took some shots of my kids(Bonnie+Sasha-Boston Terriers) and have posted them to my smugmug page.

I have been experimenting with the "Manual" mode and have come to like it a lot.

Your feedback is appreciated!

Looks like you've got some movement blur going on. According to the EXIF data you were only shooting at 1/30. When using a zoom, I generally sick to shutter speed = focal length. So if you are zoomed to about 100mm, I'd keep the shutter speed at 1/100 at the slowest. You'll have to experiment some. Some folks have a very steady hand and can go with a very slow shutter speed, other folks (like me) at a bit shakier and need to keep the shutter speed up to keep things sharp.

Have fun with your new lens!
