Locations for Bridals in Dallas area?????? - 04-12-2007, 09:18 AM

I am shooting a wedding in the dallas area in a month or so. I am from houston and have no idea where the good locations are in that area. Any ideas for a bridal shoot on location in the DFW area? The bride is from Arlington.

im not in dallas.. but the dallas arboretum is beautiful. probably the most common place there though..

years and years ago, i did a pre bridal shoot at some city hall in some small area off of george bush turnpike maybe?
it was a beautiful old white house.. had a stream in the back with a bridge, stone walkway stairs going uphill.. an old tree in the back.
the bride suggested it.. i was from houston myself.
does any dallas person know where i am talking about?
it was really pretty.

The canals in Las Colinas are always a good choice. It's commonly used for bridals and such but a very pretty location.

Deep Ellum has some cool urban shots, don't really know what your bride is looking for.

There are tons of locations, from traditional (Arboretum, Turtle Creek, etc.) to more edgy (downtown, Deep Ellum). What is she going for in terms of look? Don't forget some great stuff in Ft. Worth too. If you can give us some more info, maybe we can give you more options.

One that few people use (and I keep meaning to) is Thanksgiving Square in downtown Dallas.

Since she is in Arlington I'd suggest The Ft. Worth Botanical Gardens you can get a wide variety of shots there. The Japanese Gardens are very popular.

I'll have to ask her, but knowing this girl, I would say edgy/modern.

The Japanese Gardens charge a hefty fee..plus I have heard they dont allow tripods. The Botanic Gardens charge a $25.00 photofee if they think your a professioanl photographer.

Japanese Gardens is $75 an hour for professional/commercial photography. If you do that, tripod are allowed, but not otherwise.

Supposedly the regular gardens have a fee, but I've never found an official source for that fee... there are no signs posted, there is no information at the website... all I've ever heard of it is from photographers who were supposedly approached by a security guard.... which sounds suspicious to me.

The Botanic Gardens do in fact charge a fee....when I had my studio I id in fact pay it often if I was approached by a secutity guard. There ia sign at the main entrance to the main administration building that say "photographers check in at the desk", and they wil charge you the $25.00 fee for the Rose gardens, and & 75.00 for the Fuller Gardens which are behind the main administration building. They give you a little green photographers pass that you show the security guards if they approach you. Sometimes the guards are quite agressive in checking passes....sometimes they are not. If they chck you and you have no pass..they will make you stop shooting and go get a pass. I used to shhot with an RB67 or Bronica SQAi and anytime they saw Medium format cameras on a tripod with Q Flashes ect it attracted the guards like bes to honey. Now with digital slrs, they dont teally know the pros from the amatures...so its not as bad as it used to be. Pfofessionals paid...amatures did not. What a rip...but there was no way around it if they approached you....had on professioanl friend of mine shooting a family memebre and refused to get a pass, and the guards called the cops on him.

What about downtown - either Dallas or Ft. Worth. Outside the DMA or the Modern in Ft. Worth?

I have asked her what look she's going for and she is leaving it all up to me.

There is a park in Downtown Plano that has been popular for weddings and bridals.
