I'd say you both got the catch of the day: that's one super photo. Congratulations. :D

Are those cropped, or just resized. Do you think a 200mm is too short for most of those pictures?

I used only my Sigma 70-200/2.8 and really did not have a problem. Yes I wished for 300-400 a few times (who doesn't?) for some facial closeups, etc, but 200 worked just fine.

Great shots everyone! Sirini and Steelsun ... your shots of that Kingfisher are really great... you should think of entering in the Dallas Zoo photo contest! I got a shot of it right as we were walking out the door ... but not nearly as impressive as yours!

It was great to meet everyone .. and had a great time! I'm already wanting to go back and re visit some of my shots

Here are my shots from yesterday ... check out the last one ... this is for the calendar of but shots

Srini,
Wow, I just went to your site. You have some FANTASTIC stuff. Besides the two you posted in this thread I also love the chimp on a limb and the close up of the elephant's eye. Really wonderful stuff.

It was great fun.

Srini's gallery also has a pic of the group shot from the day: http://www.pbase.com/rrs/image/45299444

Srini is the one in the TPF T-shirt
Brad's next to him in his tell-tale trademark hat (and that's his son in front of him)
KarenG in in the middle in the pink shirt.
And that's my big head in the back in the yellow shirt.

Cathy, the zoo photog who led this event is on the far left.

Some of the TPF cards were passed out, so hopefully some of the ones that got it will join.

Had a blast.. here is my blog entry that I just made....

Alex and I went on a Photo Safari yesterday at the Dallas Zoo. It was led by the Dallas Zoo's Staff Photographer, Cathy Burkey and we had a great time... highly recommend it for anyone who has an interest in photography at the zoo. We got a tour of a limited number of exhibits, timed such that they were being fed as we arrived at each.

The chimps were getting apples and bananas...

This gorilla was guarding a frozen fruit ball until it started to melt...

The kingfisher decided to forego the dishes being put out, opting instead for this lizard that foolishly wandered into the pen...

And this meerkat was very upset when the cricket lady stopped feeding them and disappeared back inside...

Thank you Cindy, it was quite a fun/hot outing... Ft Worth Zoo has the animals more in their natural habitat than the Dallas zoo... Srini RR

Thanks Sirni,
Credit goes to Cathy Burkey on her effort to keep safari photo-op avalible to the public, i just passed on the information to fellow texans. I was just glad my post managed to pick up few more members here for the safari in such short notice. I met Craig and Jerry at Fort-worth zoo once and they told me FW is not even interested in having photo contest at all and make no efforts to organize any photography oppurtunity.

Keep it up. guys and good shots everyone... Here's my luv

ps, srini. All 135mm 2.0 L shots came out great!! and I can't help picked up one minutes ago. Go prime, baby! I did 100% crop test with the raptors
