Any other Grapevine location ideas??? - 04-26-2007, 03:58 PM

My sister-in-law wants me to do some informal bridal portraits to supplement what her "real" photographer has done. She lives in Grapevine and wants to stay in Grapevine for the pictures. When I told her the Botanical Gardens charges for people to do bridals there, she was upset. Does anyone know of any other pretty locations, hopefully with flowers, in Grapevine that doesn't charge fees???

You could try the Gaylord resort. They do have a fee policy, but I'm not sure where it kicks in. It's a nice place and worth checking into.

Why not go out and scout around the Lake Shore. There are some really picturesque locations out there. Some floral areas, and some Wild Flower areas.

Around the lake would be my suggestion also. I know there are some really nice spots on the North shore. Might require a bit of walking though which may not be ideal before this type of shoot.

I have never had any problems shooting at the Gaylord (scenery or people). Only problem I have there is trying to keep a clear shooting area. Sometimes there are so many people there it is really difficult to keep your background empty.

There is a cool winery in Grapevine that has some good shots. I can not recall the name but it should be easy to find.

Grapevine has a beautiful botanic garden downtown that is perfect for Bridals. Also you can go to Las Colina to the Canals and do some shots then there is the Solana complex with the large colored pillars off 114 that would be good as well. I think you can do it without driving to far. Check out the gardens in downtown for sure. I have done several sessions there.

I know about the rules, but I'm not a professional photographer, nor do I have commercial intentions. My sister-in-law has already had her "official" bridal portraits (at the Canals in Las Colinas) and wanted some nice pictures at the gardens. The only difference between the pictures she wanted to take this coming weekend and photos I have taken of her in the past (also at the Botanical Gardens) is that she would be wearing her wedding dress. Just because of what she is wearing, we would have to pay a fee. This is just crazy!

I now know about the rules and I guess let your conscious be your guide but I have yet to see a pro photographer there with a permit. Not saying its right or wrong just saying I don't think most people know about it. I have never see that sign as many times as I have been out there.

At any rate the OP is not a pro and doing it for free so no problems.

Looking at their website and the "contract" you are neither doing this for business or commercial so just go ahead.

I had a thought that maybe calling them up and just asking for clarification in your circumstance might be worthwhile...but then I remembered... better to ask forgiveness than permission...
