Lightning Alert - 05-02-2007, 04:20 PM

Looks like a good line of thunderstorms may hit western DFW after dark this evening. I will probably set up west of town off of IH-20 if this evening is a go. Anyone game for capturing a few lightning shots?

EDIT: West of town meaning west of Fort Worth

Yep, heading straight eastward. Thanks for the invitation, but I think I'll hang out here and see what I can get. :-)

Just remember, lightning loves tripods. Be careful out there.

I may join ya! I want to wait till the rain passes and then I am heading out possibly to 408 and I-20 area! There is a REAL nice Dip in the landscape there that would make some GREAT photos!

well, we were without power from about 6:30 to 2am ... but seem to be back up now.... watching the news, I guess we got off easy.

100mph wind gusts measured at the Grand Prairie airport.. just 2 miles north of here.

100 MPH is pretty high! Now DFW knows what a hurricane feels like. it was a little gusty down here in SW Fort Worth as well. I headed toward Benbrook Lake to get some cloud shots but turned around a few blocks from my house when it started raining so hard that I could not see. I did get a few shots from the front and back porch:

In almost every storm, our power gets knocked out. Last night, however, it didn't. The high winds had me concerned about the two trees in my backyard. They took a beating but are standing tall this morning. I still need to get the hail damage of two weeks ago checked out.

I have been lucky through the other storms we have had. Unfortunately, the fence just couldn't hold up to the winds last night. Lost two sections. Roof looks okay though.

My ex's fence blew over and fell on the car. He also loss pieces of his roof. We got branches down here, but that's all. Wind was really strong. Our power went out until after midnight, and the tornado sirens were going off. Unfortunately, without power, I had no idea if there was a tornado coming or not. I just got through shooting the two authors of the Nanny Diairies. They flew in yesterday from NY to that stuff. They also got to experience the electricity going off. Luckily, they still had a good attitude about the whole thing.

The first two are my view out my front door when the wind was at its peak last night... the last one is tonight after the storm had passed and the sun came back while it was still raining.

(there is one point where I lost sight of this truck for 10-15 seconds because the rain and wind was so heavy)

(I should have grabbed some around the neighborhood today... trees peeled back like bananas all over the place.)

I like the spray off the windshield in #1. You can tell it is a bit gusty out.
