No worries! Metallic print, aye? That might be interesting, never had one done before. Anyplace you recommend?

BWC? Flash-Back? Wolf Camera?

D.

Well, we're supposed to have storms for the next two days.. might be some more / better opportunities to catch another one before the week is out..

Can I come too? I'm right down the street from you guys at Sublett and Park Springs. Maybe one of you can teach me how to get some good lightning shots because I have yet to figure it out.

Oh and Daylon, beautiful shot.

Just curious on what your camera settings were for such a awesome shot and if you were shooting in continuous mode? Either that or you have a very fast finger;-)

Well, shooting lightning is alot like fishing. You cast and cast and cast, and eventually you get one.

I kinda "cheated". Here's what i did.

Setup your tripod and compose your shot. I took mine off Autofocus and dialed in just past my backyard fence of trees.

I set my exposure to 30 seconds, f/14, iso 400 (but I think you could go f/18-f-22 if you wanted - not really sure how much of a difference it would make)

Now here's the "cheat" part on my D200

Go MENU--> Shooting Menu---> Interval Shooting

Setup for 30 second exposures, every 40 seconds (giving the LCD time to display the picture if I want to look at it), and set it for 60 pictures. Hit RUN NOW, and walk away.

Wait 35 minutes, come back and delete the ones you don't like, restart the interval, go have coffee. It certainly beats triggering it manually or sitting there with a cable release in your hand.

I'm sure there's a better way, but this worked for me.

Here's another one from the series:

I pretty much use F13, 20 sec exposure, ISO 100. I typically just guess and use mirror lockup, cable release, or timer depending on how much prep time I have (typically not much). I usually am just running out to garage with camera tripod, dial it in and fire away for a few minutes.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll give that a try. Someone told me if stand outside with a golf club over my head, I might have better luck, but I would have to focus in a little closer:-)
