Yep it official, I have joined the ranks and tonight created my first BLOG. I know but another way I was thinking of displaying my photography. Although I wish I knew how to get the .blogspot.com out of the name and just use my stephengibsonphotography.com domain name, BTW if anyone knows a way to do this please inform.
I also wished I knew how to get this OUT THERE :)
I will also be adding more photos from past and present in the future but tell me what ya think so far. http://stephengibsonphotography.blogspot.com
Thanks,
Steve

sign in to your blog, and look around the help and forum. someplace there I have seen reference to how to use your existing domain instead of the .blogspot.com url.
I don't have a domain, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to how to do it. I know it's there.
you have a lot of looking around to do, I know I did, and I'm not quite there yet.
Bruce and Jake are 2 here that I know who use blogspot, so they might help you too.
I've had a couple of odd things happen, but I think Google is pretty new at this (just an impression I get). So far, I have not lost anything. But, I keep all of my post's text in notepad files on my own hard drive. I'd hate to rebuild at this time, but I could put up what I consider importent back together.
I hear that wordpress is more capable and more suited to the web developer, but I couldn't find a damn thing there from visit to visit, so I switched to blogspot, the UI is a lot more logical. After 35 years in "data processing" and all the advances that have occurred since I wrote COBOL for a living, there is just no good excuse for not having a easily navigated UI, and I refuse to deal with a crummy UI. (off soapbox).
looks pretty good so far.
edit: as for getting it "out there" spend some time looking around for various suggestions, but the most recommended one that you will find, you have already done, add your link in all of your signatures for forums that are compatible with the content of your blog. add a "hit counter" like sitemeter and monitor where your referrals are coming from. this will surprise you, and you will get ideas of forums and discussions that you can join, participate in, and get that signature/url out there in front of people. Wedding Photographers Forums look appropriate for you. If you get any other new ideas, please let me know!

Don't know, I've never blogged before. BUT I do know that ever since they added the "flag blog", people have been complaining about their blog being deleted without warning.

Steve,
If you are interested in checking out other blogs I recommend starting at Houston Photobloggers. You can check out Houston and Texas blogs and see a wide variety of designs. I know that several of our members use blogspot for their sites.
As for getting your site out there, all the things Jerry listed are good ideas. If you want to become more involved in the photoblogging community the best way is to make connections. Visit other photoblogs, leave comments, become part of the community.
Good luck! I love photoblogging, but then again I'm not entirely unbiased.

You can get the rid .blogspot if you upload to your own domain.
I really like blogger because it's so darn easy to use. I've never lost anything on there before......should I have said that

Joe,
can you tell me more about the "flag blog". Sounds like something I need to know more about (to avoid it?). thanks.
One more "out there" thing to mention that has not been brought up. Many bloggers like to exchange links on their blogs. Sometimes they just go ahead and add a link to your blog because they like what you have done and it is revelent to their content, sometimes they may also contact you and ask you to post a link to theirs.
I'm still pretty new to this whole scene myself, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're trying to figure out how to post pictures in a blog on myspace this is how it's done.
<img src="http//www.youphotohere.com">
I generally upload my photos to photobucket.com then use their http address for my picture and it puts it in my blog that way.
Hope that makes sense and helps!

does your web host provide blog stuff? mine does and I set one up but have not messed with it.
it does put "pblog" infront of my domain name, but I can change that to just "blog" if I wanted to http://pblog.james-benton.com/index.php

I setup my own blog using Serendipty ( www.s9y.org), which is a really a great content manager. I then setup Coppermine Photo Gallery ( http://coppermine-gallery.net) and have linked the two together, but they have separate URLs. Hosting is dirt cheap these days and both of these can be setup in minutes practically.

If enough people flag the blog, it gets deleted. I've never used their site, so I don't know specifically.

Wow! I don't think I could ever blog in a location that will delete your posts because other people did not like them--in some ways that severely limits and goes against the point of blogging. I took the option of hosting a wordpress blog directly on my website ( http://www.jeremydmoore.com).

I found their explaination about Flags. Anyone has the ability to press a Flag button on the Navbar, if they think your content is objectionable.
They won't actually remove your blog unless it is spam or promotes something illegal.
Blogger may "unlist" your blog in their blogger promotion, but it will still be available on the web. http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=42517 | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
