Okay...so maybe I shouldn't have done this....or well, maybe this is a great learning opportunity for me, but well...I splurged after begging my husband for months and purchased a Sony 135mm f/1.8 Carl Zeiss Sonnar Telephoto Lens...I would like to say I specialize in band photography and have been doing it for about a year now and have lots of recognition from local bands, which is a great start for me...but i shot all my previous work with my 18-70 mm F/3.5-5.6 lens and everyone was satisfied...

i guess i can say i am just a bit skeptical going out there and starting to shoot with my new lens because i have to move around everywhere...not that i don't already do that, because from my work if you check it out, you can see i am a mover and like to get all sorts of different angles...but did i make the right choice? or is there a better lens suited for band photography? can i get a f/1.8 or anything a little less, like 2.8 that is maybe a 18-70mm for sony...like does minolta have one? am i the only person who is shooting with a sony?

lol...well, my husband bought it for me, and everyone likes my work for the most part, so i don't have any complaints so far, but i'm just kind of wishing i had something else right now that had more options for lenses...i'm about to go out to the aardvark and do a practice shoot before this weekend comes up so i can make sure i am really in love with this lens as i thought i would be before i bought it, lol...we'll see what happens...but any input is greatly appreciated!!!!also...is this going to be good for wedding photography? i heard it would be, but let me know if you think so...i also shot weddings with the other lens, but that wedding was thankfully*i got lucky* in great lighthing...i know churches won't always give me what i want...
check out my work so far at myspace.com/nataliethephotographer for examples of my band photography and other stuff...

Given the specs, it should be great for portraits... I don't know much about the crop factor in your Sony, but if it's similar to the other DSLRs (~1.4-1.6x crop factor), then you'll be close to a 200mm which will also make it excellent for candids during a wedding.

Your 18-70mm with an external flash should suffice for full standing portraits...

Thanks so much Ken! I actually ended up just sending that one back and went to buy a 50mm 1.4 instead....I used it on Friday night, so I think it'll do until I decide to go buy another goodie for my camera....

I love my 50 1.4...I don't use it as much I I should...I'm still in love with 'lazy framing' with a zoom instead of using my sneakers :)
