Anyone gone to a Polo match? Is it worth going if the only reason one is there is to take pictures?

I've been to many polo matches. They were all in upstate NY, and none in Tx.
My experience was that you could get right down on the field, and it could get very dangerous. I was shooting behind a goal, and one of the ponies came flying be me and it was extremely scary. I know they are very sure footed, but I didn't get in the way after that. If someone playing doesn't get stitches, they are trying hard enough.

I watched indoor polo at fair park many years ago. No getting on the field there. This was probably 15yrs ago.. I wouldn't mind doing it again and shooting..

there's actually a few clubs in dallas. there's one in plano, another in dallas and las colinas. there's a couple more actually i just forget where they are. they all link up together and have special events at other locations.

its fun to go to - very fast paced. entry fee can be a little steep on occasions. $10 normally and $20-$25 for special events.

can also be very fickle. they don't play if it is wet, so if the weather sucks, you can bet that they won't be playing that day. There were times I didn't know until about an hour before game time if the game was going to be on that day.

they're coming up to the end of the spring season, next season doesn't start till september if i recall. They don't play in the summer or winter months.

need a long lens - you do NOT want to get close to the edge of the field - I was always about 10-15 feet back because horses coming at you full speed was not a good thing. even from where I was I still got a few come close to me. I was routinely shooting 300mm plus.

I've been to many, all overseas, as my mom, dad and brother all used to play. The only time I actually took pictures at one was when they were playing the Rolex tournament in Singapore. I was still new to photography, but I got some great shots. Just bring a long, fast lens.

I've been to the Las Colinas Polo field a few times when play was going on, you can get some good polo pony pictures. Bring a long lens.
