Great Beginner's Class?? - 06-20-2005, 11:03 AM

Ok, so a friend of mine's husband tagged along on a wedding about a week ago. When I invited him, I didn't realize that he literally knew *nothing* about photography other than how to use the automated functions on his camera. I told him I would ask if there was a good beginners photograhy class in the area. Fort Worth would be better, but I'd like to be able to give him a recommendation when I email him. Thanks!

Hey!

Well, is he going to make out Dallas class? I may be there on Saturday in case he might need a 1 on 1 crash curse on Photography and camera use, if he is a quick learner an a few hours he should be ready for class on Sunday, or at least know what he is doing in case that Studio lighting may not be his thing. He can contact me and we can talk pricing and times.

Juancho - I don't think so. I didn't mention the class to him because I thought most of it would be over his head. He didn't know what "apeture" or "ISO" meant. I gave him a quick crash course before the wedding, but I think I did more harm than good. I was going to recommend he take a Photo I type course somewhere first to get the basics and the vocabulary before looking at the lighting and/or portraiture classes. His wife (my friend) had mentioned that he and his friend wanted to start a wedding photo business (His wife is a florist.) and was asking me about which lenses to buy. When I asked him to tag along, I thought he was like Tricia and I, who have been doing photography almost all our lives, but just haven't done a lot of portraiture work before we started the business. I didn't realize till he got to the house right before the wedding that he hadn't done any photography and by that point, I didn't have time to teach him.

Sounds like some people I know..LOL...Photography is an art, and even though it is a business also you have to like it and have a decent eye for it so you can learn quick, if someone is just doing it for business oportunity alone with out thinking weather they like it or not it will be harder for them to learn. But most of them have the means to be the right business people and make a better "Business" than must of us LOL, I am sure they will do ok, if they think they would like my crash curse 1 on 1 when I am in town just let me know and I will make arrangements, I can teach just about to anyone who wants to be teached!

Great Beginner's Class - 06-20-2005, 06:58 PM

I am taking the class been taught at UTA this summer. Barry Baker is the teacher. He can explain anything about taking pictures. This is the kind of person I needed to learn from. I had zero knowledge of taking pictures. But I did own a DSLR. I only took Auto pilot type of pictures. Did not known what the other stuff on the dial was for. Thumbs Up for the course.

Talk to you later.

Alberto

Barry's great.. I've taken a couple of his advanced courses in the past... I didn't get a lot from them, but I was more after the group shoot and friendly photography discussion than anything else.. I still make a point to make sure he gets the commission if I buy something at Arlington Camera. :)
