Feeler: Basic Camera Class - 07-14-2007, 11:35 PM

Ok, I've had a lot of people asking me when I was going to teach my basic camera class again... and I was thinking about doing it over 4 weekend days in September.

I am redesigning the class a little.. there will be a technical session the first class where I'll explain in plain English all those little things about DOF, focus distances, the basics of how a camera works, what all those funny letters on the dial of your camera mean, and other things that are confusing to beginners and more seasoned folks alike.

The second session we'll touch on basic concepts of how to use DOF to your advantage, basic composition, and other basic techniques.

The third session will be a field trip, probably to the Fort Worth Zoo. (You'll be responsible for your paid admission to the Zoo.)

The fourth session will be a Q&A and review of everyone's photos from the Zoo.

During the course of the class (and honestly, for quite a while after), you'll be welcome to send me photos in email or PM for critique and discussion... as well as any questions you've thought of outside of class.

The cost of this class will be $100 per person.

Is there interest in this class? Please feel free to PM me if you don't want to post publicly. Be sure to express whether you'd rather have a Saturday or Sunday class.

If I have enough initial interest, I'll post an official announcement in the Workshops and Classes section.

Hi Brad,

I would be interested in attending this class. Saturdays or Sundays would be fine with me.

Thanks!

I would like to but I think I will have conflicts in September. I'll just keep a lookout for the dates you post :)

If it ends up being Sundays, I recommend the afternoon since I know some folks here attend church on Sunday morning.

I'll be announcing this class soon.. probably for Sunday afternoons unless I get any huge objections to that. Will have to come up with a field trip that won't kill us with heat on an afternoon.

Brad,

I am interested as well. I just got my Nikon D80 and am so lost. Would this class be geared for beginners?

That's exactly what this class is for, Paula... by the time you're done, you should at least have an idea of what those weird letters on the settings dial are for... and had some practice using them to make it work for you.

Great! I know about shutter speed and aperture but putting it all together and then through in ISO and I'm lost. I don't know where to start. Will you be posting the info in the Workshop forum or here?

It'll be in the workshops and classes forum.. I'll post a link from this thread when its up and ready. I just want to make sure I secure the field trip location ahead of time (before announcing the class) this time.

Brad,

It looks like there are 5 Saturdays in September. The only one that wouldn't work for me is the 1st.

I've posted it to the workshops section, but it hasn't been approved yet. I'll post a link to it as soon as it is.

I also added a $90 price for TPF Premium Members.
