Renting a Lense - 07-17-2007, 01:05 PM

Hi Guys-

I'm going to a wedding this weekend (as a guest, but the bride said I could take pics) and I'm thinking about renting a lens. Is Arlington Camera the only place that does this in the area? What kind of prices should I expect?

I'm going to call them this afternoon, but I wanted to ask here first.

Also, if I rent one...do you have recommendations for which lens I should try?

Thanks!

If you're going to be shooting indoors without a flash, I highly recommend the 24-70 for Canon. A lot of lenses are reserved two to three weeks ahead of time so you might not be able to rent this one from AC. No idea about Nikon.

Arlington Camera's website has a link to their prices for rental. I rent stuff there all the time. I believe they have a link off the main portal page here.
For a wedding get something that opens up nice and wide and is stabilized. I like the Canon 70-200 2.8L with the stabilizer. I think it's $30 for the weekend at Arlington. Most places allow you to pick your stuff up after 3 or 4 on Friday and keep it for the weekend for the single day price.
Competitive and Dallas camera also rent.
Whoever you are renting from, you should get your reservation in early (a.k.a. Now).

Fort Worth Camera also rents stuff.

I wouldn't rent anything big like the 70-200, I would get like the 85mm f/1.8 or 35mm f/1.4
Also, you may want to say something to the wedding photog before you bust out a 70-200

Thanks Guys!!

By the time I got home today and read everyone's replies..all three of the stores mentioned were closed. I am calling first thing tomorrow morning. Hopefully I can get my hands on something!

Renting is ALOT cheaper than I was expecting.
