The fire only lasted about an hour. I got the last 45 minutes of it and the aftermath posted here. Started by a candle in the bedroom.

Two people, only superficial burns, candles in the bedroom started the fire. Four dogs escaped, two caged birds did not.

They walked away...could have been worse...this fire raged through the entire house in under an hour. The husband woke up to a wall of fire and dragged his wife out. A candle in the bedroom started the fire. They just bought the house a few months ago, and much of their stuff was still in storage. The firemen also "rescued" two televisions, their wedding album. They also got some undamaged clothing to wear that was found in what was left of the dryer.

Not sure I am man enough to enter an evacuated burning building to "rescue" a wedding album or a TV set!

Among other things, yes, it appears so. They building was empty and water was on it from two sides. I have no idea why anyone would go inside at that point.

Wow, that is really sad. I guess they should be glad primarily that they are OK (except for the birds :( ) and that some of their stuff wasn't even in the house. And I didn't know that firemen would rescue your belongings.... Reminds me I have been meaning to concoct a sign for my house that says please save my greyhound.

Wow, this picture here with a crop of the coolers and mess on the left side, would really make a stunning shot. In fact if you got that blown up and took it down to the station I bet those guys would think it was the coolest thing since sliced bread.

Nicely done.

Fire fighters and police officers as well as those who serve on the front lines are my heroes. I am not brave enough to do any of those things and my admiration for the people who do is immeasurable!!

I was a firefighter a few years back, and have been in several fires like that. Looks like going into this fire wouldn't be too bad, all the heat and smoke is already venting up through the roof. All the clean air is getting sucked into the sides of the building, where you are entering.

Is it me, or is the guy rolling up the hose in the 'cooler shot' - getting a 'hosing' of his own by a mischevious fireman standing behind him with a garden hose?? That look on his face is GREAT!!

They all took turns getting sprayed to get the soot of their gear. It does look a little strange though, don't it.

LOL ~ Indeed it does.

My step-father was a fire fighter, and Ive spent many a day in the stations and believe me, i KNOW the kinds of stunts they pull on each other - amazing and hysterical.

I have the utmost respect for these men, not only having an inside view into the life of one - Ive heard countless stories of acts of heroism my step-dad performed that to him was all in a days work, but would literally leave my heart pounding - images i couldnt get out of my head for days. He's found close friends (fellow firefighters) who were trapped and killed - things that haunt him to this very day. Im so glad he's retired now and not in the face of danger anymore. Just like our police force, these men are there for us and our safety and as unfortunate as the events of 911 were, in some positive aspect I am glad that these guys are getting more of the recognition and respect they deserve for what they do.

Here's to all our firefighters and policemen!
