Pretty amazing vertical flying shots, Norm. That plane looks much bigger than many I've seen.

Thanks Bruce, its called 3-D Aerobatics. Basically the wing is not creating the lift its all done with the power of the engine.

This particular plane is 41% of full scale, with a 150cc twin, two stroke gasoline engine making about 16-18 HP. the plane weighs 40lbs has a 134 inch wing span and swings a 32x10 inch carbon fiber prop.

Its a very impressive thing to watch.

I like the exhaust in the second one and the hovering in the last. It's been a while since I've been out to that field, do they fly every weekend?

Great photos!

Check out this video.

I didn't think that plane was as big as it was until the guy walks up to it towards the end to provide scale....

Thanks Jim, that is about a 30 inch wing span foamy, weight is probably about 16-18 ounces.

Here is an idea of the size of the plane that he is flying in my pics

cool plane and pics. looks like fun. is it a model of an extra 300? is the reason the model is vertical in all the shots because the wings provide no lift (judging by the cross section in the last shot, it's not shaped correctly, i guess?)?

sorry for all the questions norm...you know i love anything aerospace....

Yes you are correct it is an Extra 330S, I don't understand you last question, but the plane is hanging in the air on prop thrust, the wings do nothing except the ailerons will counteract the torque of the motor.

I hope that answers your question

Cool. So how can you glide or flare with no lift from the wings? What do you do in the event of engine failure?
