Downtown Dallas = 56k warning - 09-07-2007, 06:22 PM

Ok so I'm trying to learn how to shoot at night and learn more than just animal shots. Don't get me wrong, my heart is wildlife but I want to learn how to shoot different kinds of subjects. I went to shoot the other night and out of 20 shots here is my best one. I think it's not bad but I'm looking for more out of my images. My settings on this one were A Priority, Center Weighted, F/5.3, ISO 400.

As always C&C is welcome and please let me know how I can make better images, different settings? What is the best, if there is one, setting for evening shooting like this? Which mode, F stop, shutter speed, ISO?

Any help would be appreciated. Hope you enjoy.

I like the first shot of downtown Dallas. What were the settings used, and where did you shoot from?

I'm guessing #1 was shot with a tripod setup?

I like it, very sharp. Fine details of downtown.

My settings on this one were A Priority, Center Weighted, F/5.3, ISO 400. Again I was just experimenting and trying to learn so things may not be perfect. I have some new shots around downtown that I took tonight but I have to get them web ready so maybe late tonight or tomorrow.

I didn't use a tripod but I did set it up on a ledge at the top of the Renaissance Hotel. I left my tripod at home so I had to use the ledge. Thank you very much, glad ya'll liked them. Hopefully you'll like the next series.

I usually use all manual, and take a pile of pictures to pick the best later. The trick to skyline photography is timing. You just have to be there at the right time of day.

That top shot is very good. Seems like your settings were just right! I like the busy-ness of it. I couldn't possibly count the number of times I've used a ledge or rock or hard place for a tripod. Nice.

Thanx rott, if you don't mind sharing what are your manual settings? I tried manual but I'm sure I don't have the camera set right. Thanx for your help.
