Are there photographer fee's for Fort Worth Botanical Garden? - 09-15-2007, 10:21 PM

Are there fee's for general landscape photography in the FTW botanicals?

I went to the Dallas Arboretum and they didn't change me anything to bring my camera in wondering if Fort Worth is the same.

Here is what their website says:
There is no charge for commercial photography during a scheduled wedding or reception. Portraits made at any other time are subject to a $25.00 per hour fee in the general garden area. Fuller Garden, Leonard Courtyard, Beggs Courtyard, Japanese Garden and the Conservatory are subject to a fee of $75.00 per hour. The Japanese Garden and Conservatory may be used with written permission from Garden Administration.

So 1) No charge for wedding photography if during a scheduled wedding/reception. 2) Portraits are $25 per our in general garden, and in the other gardens $75 an hour.

How about landscape or macro's of flowers. I'm assuming this is free? It is not wedding, commercial, or portrait photography

At a meetup I recently did people said even if you do macro of flowers or something they'll charge you. I'd like a confirmation before I go.
Anyone know for sure?

NO charge for general photography. I've never been asked even when shooting family portraits there, but things change. There is a general charge to get into the Japanese Gardens, and they don't allow tripods in there. Monopods are OK.
My experience has been that unless you are there with a bride in a gown, and/or the entire wedding party, they will leave you alone. I have always told my clients that if asked, I'm their Uncle Tom and I'm just taking some family photos.

Thanks Uncle Tom

I'll head over there tomorrow and check it out then!

It's nice to know you haven't been charged for basic portraits either. It does seem like a nice locale for general portraits and I might try that sometime.

In your opinion are the japanese gardens worth the extra charge?

There's no charge for non-commercial photo work. If you set up a tripod, you may get a busy-body rent-a-cop security guard tell you you need a permit. Just tell him to take a hike; I did.

I was out at the Botanical Gardens yesterday... Was a beautiful day. Here's a few of my better shots. (Using a Panasonic FZ8 and a Raynox 250 Macro lens on the round pics)

Please note: I was mainly there to play with my new macro lens, so not much except closeups yesterday...

He was having none of me getting in close :)

Looks like you had fun with the closeup lens. Your Japanese Maple looks nice. Is there much color out there this late in the summer? I wanted to take my daughter out there some weekend for photos.

Thanks

It's really pretty out there right now, although some of the flowers are starting to wilt a little. But the colors are out and beautiful.

Yeah, I didn't get a chance last weekend like I said, but this weekend for sure I'm going to check it out. Really impressed with the pictures. I think it beats the Dallas Arboretum!

Bring a lunch! There's a LOT of grund to cover and plenty to see and photo! There's an indoor conservatory for $1, usually, but that's closed this week :(
