Flea markets for old camera

This is a discussion on Flea markets for old camera within the Dallas / Fort Worth forums, part of the Texas category; I really enjoy fossicking old cameras in flea market. Could you introduce some good places to go around Dallas?...

"fossicking" ???

There are "camera shows" about twice a year now, and you just missed the last one on Sept. 8-9. Next one is probably in January - going on past history. They used to be every two months, but Ebay has sort of ... (sorry - editorializing)

Other than that, I have been in Dallas for 18 years and there isn't any place I know of where you can find a constant supply of old cameras. Occasionally, there will be something at an antique mall, or in a pawn shop. And there's always the lucky, but rare, find at a garage sale.

Arlington Camera still has some used gear.

There is Craigslist, on the internet. Just this week I picked up a 1950s era projector that will not only take 35mm, but medium format up to 6x6! $15!!!

What kind of old cameras are you looking for? Anything specific? 35mm, 120/220? Obsolete formats (620, 616, 126, etc.)

I just picked up an old Franka Solida III folding rangefinder (uncoupled) camera from Craigslist, and the guy selling still has a TON of old cameras left (including a Agfa Billy Record, Kodak Model 1A, Yashica-Mat TLR, and many, many others). He's in Little Elm (you can find his listings on the Dallas craigslit if you search for "Little Elm" in photo/video -- e-mail him for a .zip file because he has a ton of cameras that aren't listed).

As David mentioned, e-Bay and crigslist are probably your best best. I've gone to a couple of the local flea markets/"trade days" looking for old cameras and came away mostly disappointed.

Fossicking is a term found in Cornwall and Australia referring to prospecting. This can be for gold, precious stones, fossils, etc. by sifting through a prospective area. In Australian English, the term has an extended use meaning to "rummage". The term has been argued to come from Cornish.
