Where to get my camera sensor cleaned - 09-26-2007, 07:22 AM

Looks like I have a couple of smudge/dust spots on my mirror/sensor or some other part of my camera. See the photo below. You can see the 2 dark spots to the right and to the left of the water being blasted. Anyone have any places around the H.E.B area where I can go? I called wolf camera and they quoted me 75+ tax, and they send it out somewhere. I really dont want to go that route, only b/c I dont like that place one bit. I would rather someone locally do it in-house.

Mike:

You may very likely have some dust on the low-pass filter, behind the mirror. I had the same thing happen on my Nikon. The owner's manual suggests sending it out for professional cleaning, because of the sensitivity of the filter, I imagine. I was (stubborn) and also fortunate, in that I was able to blow the dust particle off. That is risky, of course, as you might get something else on the filter and then have to send it off for cleaning.

You might check with a camera store in your area and see if they might be able to do it.

Thanks for the info, I dont think I am going to try to fix this little problem myself, I would end up messing it up even more! I am going to call a few places today and see what I come up with.

Arlington Camera did mine in house and showed me how to do it by myself later. I paid around 60 for the cleaning. But showing my how to do it myself was worth the money.

I second Arlinton camera. I live in Tyler and had to send it off to them but they did a good job except they were supposed to clean my view finder too and didn't so I still have a hair in there that doesn't affect the pic outcome

Please learn how to clean dirty sensor yaself instead of paying someone to do it, it's as simple as put food in your mouth. If you're close to Addison area where i work, i can do it free for you.

$60 can buy you rounds of dry and wet solutions plus a rocket blower that last of year of use. You can use it for lens cleaning as well.......

Now, dirty viewfinder is another story.

Mike I took mine to Arlington camera and they showed me how to do it myself next time. That is interesting that they said they would not show you how.

They'll tell you that on the phone, but if you go in when they aren't busy, they'll show you how while they do it.

Personally, he did a way better job and was more patient and steady handed than I'll ever be... so I'd rather just pay them to do it.
