I have a PBing session along the canal for a family coming up and would like to see some sessions done along this area in hopes of getting the creative juices flowing.
Thanks so much,

I stopped shooting there since they started charging a fee. I'll look through my archives and see if there is anything worth posting in a little while.

Andrew, I know there was a thread about this but is there an actual fee collector walking around or is this just if they happen to come upon you taking pictures?

Not certain. When I found out about it, I haven't been back. I heard from a DWF member they actually do have someone checking these days.

The fee was started by a local studio who is trying to keep competition out. Went to the city counsel and complained. I don't think he has to pay.

I was there Sunday evening. I was teaching at the Omni Monday morning and I walked around taking some shots. There were at least five sessions going on that I saw. Two were brides in their dresses, two were engagements (or appeared to be any way) and one was perhaps a family where two daughters had clothes on hangers with them and a dad/photog with "professional looking" equipment. I saw no one inhibiting what they were doing. They could have had permits, I wouldn't know.

Well, thats a shame. Its such a great place. I think if I were getting paid I would probably still take a chance and pay if someone said anything.

That is JB Sallee's place. He and his wife purchased the little building there. I have heard they were mildly annoyed that they would be inside talking shop with a customer and inevitably someone would place a bride right up to their windows to shoot photos. LOL
I am not sure if they actually complained or not. The fee has actually been in place LONG before they bought the place. The city has just not enforced it.
Funny thing.. If you look at the map of the area that is actually under the cities control (that the fee covers), it is not all that much of the shooting areas. Most of the areas that people use are actually on private property owned by the building management companies and requires a separate request for permission.
To me..since I have shot there for years, I am too bored of the place to hassle with it anymore. Has become the cliche' bridal/engagement location in D/FW. Of course, so has the Arboretum and I still shoot there. LOL

I saw the photography studio. They have a cute sign regarding their hours, how they may be there or not, at 8, maybe 11 or sometimes 7, yada, yada, yada.
There was no shortage of photogs Sunday. Glad to help. I wondered if someone would say "hey, that is me..." I was tempted to ask if they were on TPF and offer to hold their reflectors. :) | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
