Best local place I've found is Arlington Camera, and they're a sponsor of the forum:

I also highly recommend Arlington Camera. They are one of the few stores in the area that will take the time to find out what equipment would be best for your projects, rather than just selling you the most expensive things.

Hey, come on! Don't let a little distance turn you off!

I drive from Fort Worth to Dallas every day for work, so driving to Arlington Camera is nothin'

---------------------------
Well my camera is equipped with a 1000 megasquirtle light sensitive array with a megakilo double widget interface and a pseudo-terrafilter. its got 2 million hexafurtles with a 10 kiloplex and a rechargeable virtual combo-backplate. i also fitted an optical fillyfangle with predictive threshold histogram monitoring. it also has a light sensitive light meter and a time sensitive shutter mechanism.

I've never bought from Arlington Camera, but I have rented their Canon 300 2.8 a few times. Always pleasant to deal with!

Thanks for your suggestions

I went round to Arlington last week and got a very nice 100-400 lens.
The place was great and the people very friendly.

Thanks
Andy
