Looking for vertical format shot locations in the Dallas area - 10-12-2007, 10:52 AM

I'm looking for good vertical shot locations in the Dallas area. We've got a focal point spot on our living room wall that I'd like to fill with a large vertical format shot. I'd like it to be one of my own taken with my long coveted and recently acquired '52 Rolleiflex and then printed on a canvas material.

My problem (maybe mental block) is finding scenes that lend themselves nicely to a vertical format around here in Dallas. The fairly flat terrain always seems to lend itself to landscape format shots. Also keep in mind that I'm limited to just the normal lens on my Rollei.

What I'm looking for is something natural and perhaps rustic with nice warm colors. I'm not really wanting cityscapes or anything too commercial looking for my living room but an old, rustic building or church in a nice setting might work fine. I've thought about the fair too but I don't think so for my living room. Other possibilities might include a windmill although I may not want to go for that much of a rural look either. I guess my preference would be for a shot of something old with a lot of character or just purely nature.

Anyway, I would welcome your suggestions even if they don't seem to fit what I have outlined. From your creative suggestions may spur other new ideas for me. It just needs to have nice vertical format shot potential.

So... suggest away....

Thanks,

Brian

Maybe try along the trinity river, use the river and trees lining them as the draw into the image. I don't where in Dallas, but River Legacy in Arlington has many opportunies.

Try some back roads, way out for old churches and the like. Spend a day driving around until you find something you like. That's what I do! :)

Post what you find! :)
