Kinda double edged sword... increases your property values at the cost of extra congestion and streets that seem like they are perpetually under construction....

McKinney has been the fastest growing city in the nation for a while now. I know a year or two ago I heard that on average one family moved to McKinney every hour.

And it was just 2000 when it was a sleepy little town and people shot into the air on New years Eve... (I was working IT that night and remember hearing all the gunshots in the background!)

I'm new here... but in McKinney. I love it here - in the historic district. And the growth is DEFINITELY helping property values (at least in my neighborhood, it is). :D

I moved in just south of McKinney, to Fairview, a couple of months ago, so I don't know whether I count in those statistics or not. But I like being out of the general DFW ratrace up here and am looking forward to exploring to historic section of McKinney, camera in hand.

Another perspective on this .....
10 years ago when I looked toward the southwestern sky at night all I could see was darkness and stars. Now I see the "glow" of the city lights encroaching to the north. Unfortunately, another part of the growth.

By the way, off topic, but: If you're in McKinney don't miss San Miguel's Mexican resturant. They have old school service and the food is phenominal! My favorite is the Chicken Adobado and the Pollo Con Calibacitas. Both are yummy! The Adobado is in a red, garlicky sauce that's SOOO tasty! They also make a mean Chicken Salad with edible bowl :) It's not unusual of the proprietor to be at the front greeting patrons with a handshake either. This place is a gem, and of all things in McKinney, I miss it the most..

lol - you don't work for them. I've been there and like it. But I really like Aparicio's on the square, too. :)

Yep- I can sure second the San Miguels! The best authentic yucatan style food in north texas!
Also- It is NOT good news that McKinney is the fastest growing city in the nation IF you have to drive in the congested traffic everyday! Ugh~

Yes, McKinney has changed a lot from when I worked there from 1983-2000. In '83 there were only a handful of places you could even go for lunch... McDonald's, Bubba's (now gone), Godfathers Pizza (now gone), Jack-in-the-Box, Taco Delight (which is now San Miguel's), and The Pantry.

I know San Miguel's has been there at least since 99, as that's when I was there :)

First, the Taco Delight was closed down, completely remodeled, and became "Tino's Tres" (same owner as Tino's and Tino's 2 in Plano). Later it closed and re-opened as "San Miguel's". I haven't eaten there for a number of years now but I do concur that the food was very good and the owner was a truely sincere host. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
