A bridal is another thing a big white dress kind of stands out. They will stop you and send you away. I was stopped by a security guard and the bride was the wedding planner for Gaylord he saw who it was and let us go ahead. The are strick because of a few photographers that showed up one day with a whole bridal party anad makeing a big fuss and blocking pathways.

They are strict because they want to make money...

IMHO.

BTW: I have shot at that Embassy Suites that was mentioned.. Wedding reception... As we moved from the ballroom area to the hotel lobby, we got some glances from security and the front desk.. but after they realized the couple had the reception there, it wasn't a problem at all.
I've shot at that same location before, a wedding/reception, and took the couple around to a variety of locations inside the hotel. No one questioned us at all. There is also that castle in Rockwall, but not sure if you can use it for portraits during the week. I'm sure it would be expensive, too.

They do allow photographers there, but you have to pay, unless you know someone. I just shot a bridal there. I'm sure you could get away without paying if you're just shooting a family.

Lots of people have shot at the Gaylord with no problems as long as it's not a production setup with assistants, lights, etc. then it's $500. If you are a lone photographer with a flash unit or two you should'nt have any problems. I've shot for friends there and have never had anyone even ask.

A bridal is a different issue all together. I'd just call and ask what their rule is regarding the bridal, just stress that it's just the photographer and bride.

A lot of nice areas to shoot.

it sounds like after all, there's no place to shot indoor without paying? (if the shooting target is in 'nice dress')

Just want to remind those that recommend going to the Gaylord that although many have shot there, this will be a group of nine people and you would want to try to be unobtrusive about shooting there. I'd try it, with the caveat that I'd have a backup place.

Taking snapshots is one thing, but a formal family portrait should require extra lighting and possibly at least one assistant.

I'd be looking at some local churches. For a donation to charity they might let you use a large room for a little while.
