I went on a little road trip yesterday up through Mena, Ar to the Talimena scenic drive. I called Mom and told her of my plans, and she told me that since I was going through Cove, AR, I should stop at their cemetary because my Great Great Granparents on my mothers and grandmother's side was buried there. Apparantly My GGGF was a man of some means who donated the land for the cemetary...

My GG Grandfather, Andrew Scott

His wife, My GG GRandmother Rebecca
Now, here's the really interesting thing: About 20 feet down the hill are 4 unmarked gravesites. Apparantly 4 black Confederate soldiers were killed and nobody would allow them to be buried. The people wiht the bodies finally approched my GGGF and he allowed them to be, although it was a dead-of-night affairwith unmarked graves. Not too nice by today's standards but downright enlightened by the standards of Confederate Arkansas in the 1860s...

It was sad to see such tiny rocks used as headstones...

Still, I was glad to see them being honored as veterans.
I hope this didn't bore you too much! But I thought it worth sharing.
