If you want a guide, check out this site http://www.caddooutback.com/ I have used John's tour guide services several times and have come bak with some great photos. He is also an ametur photographer. Most of the vegetation willl be gone in Jan and Feb. You can talk to John about what wildlife will be there. Remember while its' name is Caddo Lake it is more like a swamp with many fingers to investigate.

The moss doesn't leave during the winter though does it? I'm looking for the beautiful scenery but with a different "feel"?! Actually, I'm just looking for the beautiful scenery. Phil, would you suggest getting a canoe to "investigate" the fingers or stick with a tour?

I think you should be able to go out on your own, but I'd recommend having a GPS if you do, just in case.

If you go wiht one of the guides they can take you to places most people never get too. If yo ucall Outback you can schedule a tour for 3 or more hours and just tell them you are doing a photo tour and let them know what you want to shoot. I think the moss will be there, but the lily pads and most of the vegetation on the water will be gone. I've done a trip in early spring and then came back a few months later and for myself I liked the scenery better the second time. I like the vegetaion better when the flowers are out. You just have to go out and experience it. If you call Outback Tours talk with John and he can give you what times of the year are best for what you want to shoot.

Sorry Jeff, I was too busy to check this thread last weekend. I took these pictures on Nov. 16 this year. I thought it was a little bit late for the colorful cypress tree at that time. Most leaves of them had already turned gray, which looks not good. I guess early November would be the best time to go. For the moss, they looks always the same color. I don't think you will find wonderful view on Jan. or Feb. unless it was snowing:)

You can rent a canoe to take pictures. But I do not recommend you rent canoe form the Caddo Lake National Park. Because you have to row a long way (at least one hour) to the main body of the lake. And I agreed with Jeffkohn that you'd better bring a GPS or study the map of the lake carefuly before you go.

Last time I went Caddo lake was June 2005. Here are some pictures I took then.
