Los Colinas Canals - 12-05-2007, 09:44 PM

I took my folks down to the Los Colinas Canals this afternoon. They're sending out a Christmas card and wanted a Christmas picture. (Think red and green clothes.) Anyway, I searched the TPF archives earlier today to find out what y'all had to say about shooting at the canals. I ended up running across a thread that said I had to have a $50 permit.

Does anybody have the details on that?

Do those rules apply to everyone or just to the "professionals?"

What about if I'm just shooting family? I'm certainly not a professional and I don't make money... But I was there specifically to do pictures and not necessarily to sight see.

Anyway, we ended up going. (And I didn't pay the $50.) I felt like a thief the whole time we were down there, and felt obligated to eat dinner, just so that if I was stopped I really could pull the "I'm just a tourist" line.

The fee for shooting is meant to keep the big productions from interfering with normal business. If they started prohibiting amateurs or toursits from shooting their family there, it would be an outrage.
If you show up with a bride, MUA, assistant, tripod, reflectors, strobes, etc. you would be required to pay for the permit.

How was dinner ?

Well, I didn't have any of those things. (Unless my near four year old counts as an assistant. ;) ) Dinner was actually really lovely. We ate at this pizza place that wasn't exactly on the canal, but was in that general area. The food was delicious and fairly reasonably priced.

A few shots from dinner:
